Zürich, 17 May 2016 – Huawei Technologies Switzerland AG announced today that Belinda Bencic has signed as its Local Brand Ambassador for Switzerland. The agreement, which has initially been confirmed for two years, will see the brand feature on Belinda’s match and training kit. The deal includes a selection of player appearances and other sponsor obligations to enable Huawei to fully leverage the partnership with one of Switzerland’s most popular and fast rising sports stars as the brand demonstrates its ongoing commitment to connecting greatness.

“We have very high ambitions of contributing to building a better connected Switzerland and our partnership with Belinda Bencic clearly represents this. Belinda’s ascension to success has been quite incredible – the speed at which she has achieved global recognition is astonishing and she continues to go from strength to strength. Huawei Switzerland has also enjoyed growth and, like Belinda, we continue to challenge ourselves and continually look for ways to improve and stay ahead. We know that this requires hard work, focus and dedication, qualities that Belinda has demonstrated time and time again. Through these shared values and goals, we look forward to an exciting and energetic journey of making future dreams come true together,” said Mr Xiao Haijun, CEO of Huawei Switzerland.

In October 2008, Huawei opened its Swiss headquarters in Liebefeld (Bern), before expanding to Dübendorf (ZH) and Lausanne. After more than seven years of continuous development, Huawei’s telecom network equipment and services, IT products and solutions and smartphone devices are now widely used across Switzerland.

The Huawei brand has rapidly risen to success and today enjoys third place in the Swiss smartphone market. Just 7 years ago, the company was starting out from China to Switzerland and its growth has been a story of hard work, focus and dedication. This story resonates in the Belinda Bencic camp. A tough upbringing with no previous family experience in tennis and grandparents who fled from the former Czechoslovakia forced Belinda to fight that bit harder. Under the watchful eye of Melanie Monitor, mother of fellow Swiss tennis phenomenon Martina Hingis, she has risen to fame at an almost unheard of rate. ITF World Junior Champion in 2013, voted 2014 WTA Tour Newcomer of the Year, two WTA Tour tournament titles and a victory over Serena Williams followed in 2015. Currently ranked no.8 in the WTA Tour world rankings (career high no.7 earlier this year), and the first teenager to hold this position for a number of years, there is no doubt that Belinda Bencic is one of the hottest rising stars the game has ever seen.

Huawei Switzerland is thrilled to welcome such an inspiring and driven young sensation to be its first Local Brand Ambassador. The timing is opportune, following last month’s launch of the much-awaited Huawei P9 series. The new series fuses cool, sleek design and precision detail with state-of-the-art technology to change the way we see the world. Such forward-thinking and innovative technology illustrates the brand’s desire to stay ahead of the game, a philosophy to which Belinda Bencic can easily relate.

“Life on the tour can be tough. You have to challenge yourself every single day and find a way to keep ahead of the competition. Huawei is such an inspirational brand, continually challenging technology, design and product development. Setting high goals and working relentlessly to fulfil them is definitely one of the many values we share. It’s about having a dream and making it happen. Huawei dreams of becoming the no.1 smartphone brand in Switzerland; I dream of becoming the best player I can be.”
