[2008 GSMA MOBILE ASIA CONGRESS, MACAU – NOVEMBER 18, 2008] HUAWEI Technologies Co Ltd. ("HUAWEI"), a leader in providing next generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, today announced that its E180 next generation mobile broadband device has won the ’Best Mobile Broadband Handset/Device Award’ at the Asia Mobile Awards 2008 which took place at the Mobile Asia Congress held in Macau.
Boasting High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) and an innovative swiveling USB connector, the device was launched globally in June 2008 targeting not only at business professionals but also younger and active customer groups as well as small office and home office (SOHO) users. As the world’s slimmest HSPA USB stick to date, the only 10mm thick E180 is a highly compact device supporting the complete range of HSPA/UMTS and GSM/GPRS/EDGE network technologies, allowing fast uplink speed rates of up to 5.76Mbps and a downlink of up to 7.2 Mbps. E180 is awarded as it is a truly remarkable product in terms of performance and design.
Judged by independent analysts, journalists and industry experts, the Asia Mobile Awards attracted more than 120 entries this year from companies across Asia and across the mobile value chain, with a wealth of commercially available products, services, content and applications.
"We are delighted to win an award for ‘Best Mobile Broadband Handset/ Device’," said Edward Chen, CEO of HUAWEI Communications, "It is recognition of the HUAWEI’s commitment to provide innovative solutions to its customers in Asia and all over the world. We will continue to focus on our customers’ needs to bring them cutting-edge products and to contribute to the development of the mobile telecom industry."
Equipped with a rotatable USB connector and compatible with Microsoft Windows (2000/XP/Vista) and Mac OS X, the HUAWEI E180 is a real plug-and-play device for mobile broadband users. As the world’s slimmest HSPA USB stick to date, the highly-portable E180 is designed with an ultra slim rotatable USB connector, which can be turned by 270 degrees. This way, the USB connector can be stored safely without the need of an additional cover and is ideally suited for use at home or on the go.
An interesting feature, setting the E180 apart from the competition, is the ability to use it as a flash memory. Its built-in MicroSD card slot supports up to 8GB memory card, turning the E180 into a portable storage device for documents, music or movies, eliminating the need for an additional USB memory stick. In addition, the device supports various useful services like SMS/MMS, PC voice, phone book, flow display and statistics.
