Huawei debuts Ascend P7 Sapphire Edition in China
Shenzhen, China, September 4, 2014: Huawei today unveiled the Ascend P7 Sapphire Edition, a limited edition series which will debut in China in Q3, 2014. Building on the success of Huawei Ascend P7 which was first launched in May 2014, this special edition smartphone features a big 5-inch sapphire screen with a full HD display. Sapphire glass, as the most “scratch-resistant” material, is expected to be the screen of choice for premium handset device manufacturing in 2014. The Huawei Ascend P7 Sapphire Edition is the first 4G LTE handset in China with a sapphire screen.

The Ascend P7 Sapphire Edition transcends the glass touchscreen design of the original Ascend P7, providing unbeatable strength and durability. As the world's second-hardest material after diamond, sapphire glass boasts increased scratch resistance, crack resistance, superior thermal and infrared conductivity, and advanced visual appeal.
The manufacturing of a sapphire screen involves the production of ultra-thin material several- hundred micrometers slim, crafted from sapphire crystal that is created in a furnace. Due to the complexity of this process, devices with a sapphire screen are produced to meet much more stringent standards using more advanced technology than conventional glass screens.
In addition, high-tech ceramic is used at the rear of the phone to enhance not just the phone’s style appeal, but also its strength. High-tech ceramic which is currently used by high fashion to create timeless and exquisite quality products, is three times stronger than steel, scratch-resistant, dissipates heat quickly to ensure a cool touch factor, all in a superbly smooth exterior.
For the fourth consecutive quarter, Huawei has maintained its number three smartphone manufacturer position in Q2 2014 with 6.9% market share . Since its launch in May 2014, Ascend P7 has sold over two million units in more than 70 countries and markets around the world. Last month Huawei partnered with Arsenal FC to launch Ascend P7 Arsenal Edition. Ascend P7 Sapphire Edition will be available in China in limited quantity from Q3, 2014, and details about international availability will follow.
