New patents awarded every year
As of August 31, 2014, Huawei filed 12,000 Consumer BG related invention patent and 1,000 design patent applications. Of the applications granted, 1,600 patents were in China and more than 500 patents were overseas in the US and European countries. Currently, Huawei Consumer BG's number of patent applications is growing steadily, with an approximate increase of 1,300 patent applications every year (equating to about 700 in China and 600 overseas).
Huawei actively participates in key standards organizations in China and overseas including IEEE, IETF, 3GPP, GSMA, ETSI, WFA, BBF, NFC Forum, oneM2M, DLNA, UPnP, and CCSA, holds more than 10 positions as Chairman and Vice Chairman, and rapporteur at standards organizations. More than 700 papers are accepted by these organizations every year.

Huawei respects the intellectual property rights of others, and is committed to protecting its own. By the end of 2013, Huawei had signed a series of cross-licensing agreements with industry counterparts in the area of telecommunications and consumer business. Huawei invests approximately 10% of its annual total sales in R&D. As of late June 2014, Huawei filed more than 65,000 patent applications in China, the US, and Europe.

  • October: Huawei Ascend Mate7 received the "Swan Award" at the 2nd Annual Chinese Handset Industry Design Innovation Contest.

  • October: Huawei ranked 94th on Interbrand's Top 100 Best Global Brands, making it the first ever mainland Chinese company to appear on the list.

  • EMUI 3.0: Designed for a global audience, EMUI 3.0 is an enhanced version of Huawei's intuitive user interface with a new look across the entire software interface that makes it easier to operate with one hand.

  • Ascend P7 Sapphire Edition: China's first 4G smartphone featuring a sapphire screen.

  • Ascend G7: Featuring a slim and stylish design with a 5.5-inch IPS display, powerful photo-taking capabilities with its 5 MP front-facing and 13 MP rear-facing cameras, and speedy 4G LTE capabilities.

  • Ascend Mate7: Featuring a 6-inch FHD TFT IPS in-cell LCD display with low power consumption, an innovative single touch fingerprint reader, large 6-inch screen, powerful 4,100 mAh battery, more powerful octa-core Kirin chipset, and the fastest LTE Cat6 connectivity. And it was awarded "Best of IFA 2014-Best Smartphone" by Android Central,Tom's Guide,Android Authority and GSM Arena.

  • IFA: Huawei unveiled the following flagship smartphones and an enhanced version of Huawei's intuitive user interface in Berlin, Germany:

  • August: Ascend P7 awarded 'European Consumer Smartphone 2014 – 2015' by EISA.

  • June: Launched Kirin 920, the industry-leading octa-core chipset featuring BIG.Little GTS architecture, LTE Cat6 connectivity, and supporting TD-LTE/LTE FDD/TD-SCDMA /WCDMA/GSM and lightning fast connection with industry leading speeds of 300 Mbps.

  • May 2014: Unveiled the 4G LTE Ascend P7 in Paris, France.

  • Mobile World Congress: Introduced the 7-inch 4G LTE-enabled MediaPad X1, Ascend G6 4G smartphone, and the 8-inch entertainment powerhouse tablet MediaPad M1. Unveiled first wearable device, TalkBand B1, with a Bluetooth earpiece and big-data tracking capabilities. Launched the world's first LTE Cat6 Mobile WiFi, Huawei E5786, offering a lightning fast connection with industry leading speeds of 300 Mbps.

  • Consumer Electronics Show:
    Launched the first LTE-enabled Huawei Ascend Mate2 4G, a high-end flagship smartphone with speeds of up to 150 Mbps.

  • Consumer Electronics Show: Launched the Huawei Ascend D2, a high-end flagship smartphone featuring a 5-inch HD 443 PPI Super Retina screen.

  • January: IDC ranked Huawei the number three smartphone manufacturer globally for Q4 2012.

  • November: Partnered with TalkTalk to launch the new YouView set-top box (STB) service in the UK.

  • September: Launched three 4G devices, Ascend P1 LTE, E589 Mobile WiFi, and E392 MBB device, in partnership with Everything Everywhere (EE) in the UK.

  • April: Announced Huawei Ascend G300 handset availability through Vodafone in the United Kingdom.

  • Mobile World Congress:Launched the Huawei Ascend D1 quad, the world's fastest quad-core smartphone.

  • Consumer Electronics Show: Introduced the new Huawei Ascend range of fashion smartphones with the launch of the Huawei Ascend P1 S which, at 6.68mm slim, was the world's slimmest smartphone.

  • August 2011: Huawei debuted its cloud service, and introduced the world's first cloud-enabled smartphone, Huawei Vision.

  • March 2011: Huawei sold over one million C8500 smartphones in China within 100 days of its official launch.

  • IFA 2010: Huawei launched the first IDEOS smartphone with Google's Android 2.2 operating system.

  • August 2010: Total shipments of Huawei's mobile broadband products reached 100 million units, capturing 50% of the global market share and solidifying Huawei's ranking as the top global MBB manufacturer for the third consecutive year (according to ABI Research).

  • Mobile World Congress 2009: Huawei debuted its first Android smartphone and announced its cooperation with T-Mobile.

  • November 2008: Huawei's E180 was named the 'Best Mobile Broadband Product' at the Asia Mobile Awards.

  • Huawei achieved global recognition for its mobile WiFi design, receiving the Red Dot Design Award for the E270, and the IF Product Design Award for the E172.
