The accessibility features allow visually-impaired or hearing-impaired
users to get the most usability from their phones.
TalkBack
TalkBack is a voice assistant application
provided by Google. It helps visually-impaired users in interacting
with their phones.
Explore by touch is a feature of TalkBack.
After you enable TalkBack and Explore by Touch, your phone describes
anything you touch, select, and activate on your screen.
Enabling TalkBack
When you power on your
phone for the first time, spread two fingers apart and hold them on
the welcome screen to quickly enable TalkBack and Explore by touch.
- On the home screen, touch .
- Under All, touch Accessibility.
- Touch TalkBack.
- On the TalkBack screen, touch the switch
on the upper right corner, and touch OK to enable TalkBack.
TalkBack gestures
After you enable TalkBack and Explore by touch, you can use different gestures to operate your phone.
Browse the screen
Flick up or down with
two fingers to scroll across the list or flick left or right to switch
between pages.
Select an item
Touch an item to select it
and listen to the TalkBack voice instructions.
Open an item
After you select an item, double-touch
any area on the screen to open the item.
Move an item
- Touch the item you want to move.
- Double-touch the item and drag it to the desired location. Then
release your finger.
On the TalkBack settings screen, touch Manage gestures to customize your commands with different
gestures.
Configuring TalkBack
- On the home screen, touch .
- Under All, touch Accessibility.
- Touch TalkBack.
- Touch Settings to configure voice, feedback, and other features.
Enabling large text
- On the home screen, touch .
- Under All, touch Accessibility.
- Select Large
text to enlarge the system font.
Inverting colors
Invert colors to enhance
the color contrast and make the display effect resemble a photo negative,
making it easier for users with visual impairment to read text on
the screen.
- On the home screen, touch .
- Under All, touch Accessibility.
- Select Negative colors.
Setting shortcut operations for answering or ending
a call
- On the home screen, touch .
- Under All, touch Accessibility.
- You can then:
- Select Close to the ear to answer so that
you can answer incoming calls by simply raising your phone to your
ear.
- Select Volume key answers call so
that you can answer incoming calls by pressing the volume button.
- Select Power key ends call so that you
can end calls by pressing the power button.
Enabling accessibility shortcut
- On the home screen, touch .
- Under All, touch Accessibility.
- Touch Accessibility
shortcut.
- On the Accessibility
shortcut screen, touch the switch on the upper right corner.
Then press and hold the power button until you hear a sound,
and touch and hold any area on the screen with two fingers to enable TalkBack.
Setting the TalkBack speech rate
- On the home screen, touch .
- Under All, touch Accessibility.
- Touch Text-to-speech
output.
- Touch Speech rate to set the speed of TalkBack voice notifications.
Setting the touch & hold delay
- On the home screen, touch .
- Under All, touch Accessibility.
- Touch Touch
& hold delay to set the recognition time for touching and holding
the screen.
Hearing settings
Adjusting sound balance
Hearing-impaired
users may have different hearing capabilities between their left and
right ears. You can adjust your phone's left and right sound channel
volume as required.
- On the home screen, touch .
- Under All, touch Accessibility.
- Touch Sound balance, and drag the slider
left or right to shift the sound balance.
Turning off all sounds
- On the home screen, touch .
- Under All, touch Accessibility.
- Select Disable all sounds to disable multimedia
sounds, ringers, and other notification tones.
Enabling captions
- On the home screen, touch .
- Under All, touch Accessibility.
- Touch Captions.
- Touch the switch on the upper right corner to enable Captions.
