      Privacy Notice for the “STORYSIGN” App

      This Privacy Notice explains the types of data collected through or related to your use of StorySign App (“StorySign”).

      When we say “we, “us” or “our” in this Privacy Notice, we mean Huawei Technologies Dusseldorf GmbH.

      References to “you” in this Privacy Notice are to the person using StorySign. If a child is using the StorySign then, depending on the context below, “you” refers either to that child, or to the parent or guardian of that child who should review this Privacy Notice on the child’s behalf, or to both the child and their parent or guardian together.

      This Privacy Notice does not apply to any other products or services you might receive from us or any of the other Huawei companies, or to data collected in any other way by us (whether online or offline) or for any other purpose.  In those circumstances, separate privacy notices will apply.

      Please take the time to read this Privacy Notice carefully to understand our practices regarding your data and how we will treat it. Through your usage of StorySign, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Notice.

      On the basis of your consent, we will collect and use the following data relating to you:

      • Non-Personally Identifiable app usage data and performance statistics
      • Cookies to identify unique devices anonymously

      We will automatically collect and process this data through Google Analytics, a third-party service provider tracking technology, as you interact with StorySign. This technology helps us understand how users of StorySign are using the app and provides an insight to us on further changes or optimisations we might want to make to StorySign.

      Google Analytics is an analytics service provided by Google Inc., headquartered at 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway Mountain View, CA 94043, USA. To learn more about how Google Analytics processes your personal data, please refer the Google Privacy Policy:

      You can control your privacy settings within the StorySign app and you can withdraw your consent by disabling this function at any time.

      Your data will be transmitted to employees of Huawei who are responsible for running Story Sign. We may share your data with other Huawei companies where we are satisfied we have a legal basis to do so.

      We also use data processors (or sub-processors) who are third parties who are responsible for operating the StorySign app on our behalf:

      • FCB Inferno Limited, a company registered in England & Wales with its contact address at: 31 Great Queen Street, London, WC2B 5AE, United Kingdom; and
      • Aardman Animations Limited, a company registered in England & Wales with its contact address at: Gas Ferry Road, Bristol, BS1 6UN, United Kingdom.

      We may share your data collected through cookies and similar technologies as set out in section 4 (above).

      We may share your data in response to a legal process or request from a competent authority based on applicable laws or in connection with a legal proceeding or process.

      Your data may also be disclosed as part of a merger, acquisition, sale of assets (such as service agreements) or transition of service to a Huawei group or other company.

      In any scenario, we’ll satisfy ourselves that we have a lawful basis on which to share the information.


      As disclosed above, we may transfer your data to, or allow access by, an affiliate or third party. An affiliate or third party may be located in a different country which is outside the European Economic Area.

      Huawei complies with applicable legal requirements for providing adequate safeguards by transferring data to countries or organisations that the European Commission has determined will protect your data adequately, incorporating the standard model clauses to such transfer or, where such transfers are to the USA, by requiring such are under the US Privacy Shield.       7. SECURITY
      We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to keep your data secure at all times. We provide regular training to our employees and update and test our security technology on an ongoing basis. 

      Your data will be kept for 14 months and will be deleted once this period has expired.


      Your rights as a data subject

      Right of Access

      You have the right to obtain from Huawei confirmation as to whether or not personal data concerning you is being processed and, where that is the case, access to a copy of the personal data and specific information about how Huawei processes the personal data. 

      Right of Rectification (Correction)

      You have the right to obtain from Huawei the correction of inaccurate personal data concerning you and also the right to have incomplete personal data completed.

      Right of Erasure (Deletion)

      You have the right to obtain from Huawei the erasure (deletion) of your personal data in particular circumstances.

      Right of Restriction

      You have the right to obtain from Huawei restriction of processing in particular circumstances.

      Right of Objection

      You have the right to object to the processing of your personal data in particular circumstances.

      Right of Portability

      In certain circumstances, you have the right to receive your personal data in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format and have the right to transmit those data to another controller.

      Right to Withdraw Consent

      Where the legal basis of processing personal data is based on consent, you have the right to withdraw your consent at any time.

      Right to Complain

      You can also lodge a complaint with your data protection authority, or the Data Protection Officer of North Rhine-Westphalia (where Huawei Technologies Deutschland GmbH has its headquarters).

      We reserve the right to modify this Privacy Notice, and will note the date of its most recent revision below. If we plan any significant changes to this Privacy Notice, and where required by applicable law (for example, processing your data for new purposes), we will communicate with you prior to implementing such changes.
