A message is displayed indicating that the remaining storage space is insufficient

Open Settings and touch Storage to check the remaining storage space:

If the remaining storage space is less than 10%

Perform the following:

  1. Clean up storage space
    • It is recommended that you uninstall apps you rarely use. Installing too many apps may take up a large amount of storage space.
    • Clear your storage space: Open Phone Manager/Optimiser, touch Cleanup, select the data you wish to delete, and touch DELETE (). Alternatively, touch OPTIMISE and free up the storage space based on the scan results and recommendations.
  2. Check whether you have created sub-user accounts or PrivateSpace
Adding multiple user accounts or enabling PrivateSpace will take up storage space on your phone. It is recommended that you delete unnecessary user accounts or PrivateSpace.

Ignore this solution if a non-owner account or PrivateSpace has not been created or is not supported.

    • Open Settings, then search for and access the Users screen to check the user accounts you have created. Delete the accounts you no longer need by touching an account name and touching Delete user.

    • Open Settings, search for and access the PrivateSpace screen, and see if Log in is displayed on the screen. If so, touch in the upper right corner and touch Delete PrivateSpace if you no longer need it. (If Enable is displayed, it indicates that no PrivateSpace has been created on your phone.)

  3. Move large files to an external memory card (if supported by your phone)

If your phone supports external memory cards, it is recommended that you move your photos, audio clips, videos, and other files from the Internal storage to an external memory card to free up storage space.

Go to Files > Browse > Phone, touch and hold the file you want to move, and touch Move to transfer it to an external memory card.

  4. Change the Default location to the memory card

If your phone supports external memory cards, it is recommended that you insert an external memory card into your phone and go to Settings > Storage > Default location, then change Default location to the memory card to avoid too much storage space being taken up on your phone.

  5. Restore your phone to its factory settings

Open Settings, search for and access the Reset phone screen, and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the task.

If the remaining storage space is more than 10%

Perform the following:

  1. If your phone is running EMUI 5.X, update it to the latest version. In early versions, a message will be displayed indicating that the memory is insufficient when a twin app is updated.
  2. You may have accidentally visited websites that create this type of alert and are intended to promote their phone optimiser apps. Clear the browser cache and update the virus library of Phone Manager (Optimiser) to block fraudulent websites.
    • EMUI 8.X or earlier: Go to Phone Manager > Virus scan > Settings and select Auto-update.
    • EMUI 9.X/10.X/11.X and Magic UI 2.X/3.X/4.0: Go to Phone Manager > Settings and select Auto-update/Online virus scan.
  3. If your phone fails a system update due to insufficient storage space, clear up storage space as prompted to make room for the update.
