HUAWEI Technologies Co. Ltd. (HUAWEI) announced that they would provide journalists who attended the Group of Eight (G8) summit held in Japan this July with HSDPA mobile connectivity service and equipment. The journalists received high-speed modems made by HUAWEI and an unlimited two-week mobile data subscription from EMOBILE.
HUAWEI donated more than 1000 high-speed wireless modems to journalists who were reporting from the International Media Centre, located at Rusutsu Resort. The modems, linked with EMOBILE's HSDPA (high speed downlink packet access) network, helped them receive data transmitted at rates up to 7.2 Mbps – twice as fast as existing products. HUAWEI also sent available a multilingual team of IT experts at its kiosk in the Resort from July 4 to 10 to assist the journalists and answer technical enquiries.
EMOBILE had invested in base station infrastructure and strengthened its existing network to ensure wireless connectivity for the journalists. The EMOBILE base-station infrastructure remained in place after the Summit, allowing the entire region to maintain high-speed mobile broadband network.
HUAWEI and EMOBILE have been working together since 2006, when EMOBILE chose HUAWEI as its strategic partner to implement its mobile broadband services in Spring 2007. At the end of 2007, HUAWEI partnered with EMOBILE to launch the first 7.2 Mbps HSDPA USB modem (D02HW) in Japan, which has become No. 1 in Japan's mobile broadband market according to GfK AG report (Gesellschaft für Konsumforschung).
The products provided to the journalists of the G8 Summit were customised products oriented for the Japanese market. The products could also meet the requirements of the journalists from different countries as the products were compatible with operating systems of different languages. The spokesperson of HUAWEI terminal products said:" The G8 Summit is an important activity in the world. The mobile broadband terminals provided by HUAWEI, which are the best mobile broadband products in the Japanese market, representing the fastest mobile broadband technology used on a large scale for commercial purposes. The fact that HUAWEI could provide the journalists of the G8 Summit with high-speed modems indicates that HUAWEI has established its reputation of providing excellent quality products in the world. We are very proud of that."
Till now, HUAWEI's mobile broadband terminals have been widely applied by more than 235 operators in over 115 countries and regions with accumulated shipments of over 12 million, ranking HUAWEI the No. 1 in the industry according to ABI report.
