Huawei takes home manufacturer of the year award

14 February, London, Huawei, the world’s second largest smartphone manufacturer, today announced that it has scooped up a raft of awards at some of the industry’s most prestigious events, including Manufacturer of Year and Handset of the Year for the Mate 20 Pro at the 2019 uSwitch Awards, while the Huawei Mate 20 Pro was also crowned the winner of Amateur Photographer’s Smartphone Camera of the Year. Highlighting Huawei’s continued leadership in the smartphone category, the awards are testament to the brands’ commitment to innovation following a standout year for the business. Last year, Huawei overtook Apple to become the world’s second-largest smartphone seller behind Samsung in the second quarter, breaking the duopoly of Apple and Samsung to become a household name within the UK market.
uSwitch Awards 2019
The uSwitch Manufacturer of the Year Award is decided by team of industry experts and technology journalists and is one of the most respected in the industry. Beating Apple and Samsung to take the top spot, the award recognises brands that make an impact on the technology sector in the UK and go above and beyond industry expectations. The Mate 20 Pro also triumphed for the judge’s choice Handset of the Year award, beating both the Google Pixel 3 and the Samsung Galaxy S9.
The judges commented: “Huawei’s seismic impact on the UK market was confirmed by its wins for Manufacturer and Handset of the Year, a further demonstration that the smartphone industry and consumers alike are impressed by offerings beyond the usual suspects.”
“The Huawei Mate 20 Pro is a powerful handset with a great screen, fantastic performance and a battery life that’s up there with the best. But what really made it stand out to the judges was the genuinely new innovations it comes with. For one thing, it was the first phone we’d tested with an in-screen fingerprint scanner while the whopping triple-lens camera set-up is one of the best we’ve tried. The impressive specs with the intuitive AI camera mode to give you stunning results in varying conditions made it an easy choice for the win.”
Amateur Photographer Awards 2019
Bolstering Huawei’s smartphone photography credentials, Huawei was also crowned the Smartphone Camera of the Year at the 2019 Amateur Photographer Awards. Recognising the best kit in the photographic industry, this is the first time the annual awards has introduced a smartphone category into the mix. The win saw the Huawei Mate 20 Pro beat the Google Pixel 3XL as well as the Mate 20 Pro’s predecessor, the Huawei P20 Pro, thanks to its advanced photography capabilities.
The Mate 20 Pro has seen Huawei continue to build on the success of the P20 Pro, creating a genuine alternative to a DSLR with its industry-leading camera technology and its leadership in Artificial Intelligence. Its Matrix Camera System includes a Leica Ultra-Wide Angle Lens which means users can not only see wider, but also see closer from a distance, while the new Leica Triple Camera powered by AI reveals life’s drama, texture, colour and beauty in every photograph. The device also includes DNG raw recording from all three cameras, a fully featured camera app including manual control and excellent battery life, which were all featured as top reasons for the win.
Director of Marketing for Huawei’s Consumer Business Group in the UK, Justin Costello, commented:
“At Huawei, our collective ambition has always been the same: to be the number one technology company in the world and these accolades are evidence of our commitment to delivering just that. Globally, in 2018 we exceeded over 200M smartphone shipments thanks to our innovative products and ongoing support for our products. We’ve got some exciting things in the pipeline for 2019 so we’re looking forward continuing to challenge and exceed customer expectations!”
