1 We Care About Your Privacy and Security As Much As You Do

At Huawei, we believe that the security of your Huawei device, content and personal data is just as important as producing the best product for our customers.

We focus on security and privacy at the beginning of each product and service design process, and we extend this concept throughout its lifecycle up to and including its end of life. The personal data you store on your device (such as your photos, calling history, contacts, messages, and frequently visited websites) is protected. In fact, the first time you use your device you will be asked to read and agree to the Privacy Policy. The Privacy Policy lets you know of any personal data, also known as personally identifiable information (PII) that may be collected. For instance, we may collect information such as your first and last name, delivery address so that we can process and ship your order to your address, send you relevant marketing messages and invite you to our activities. It helps us provide the services that you are requesting. We automatically collect information that does not personally identify you. This information lets Huawei know how services are used, usage statistics, and performance data, for example, to allow Huawei to analyze trends and make our website and services better. For detailed information about what information is gathered and how it is used, you can also refer to the Privacy Policy. You have complete control over the gathering, processing, and sharing of your personal data which will be collected in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Without your initial authorization, your personal data will not be disclosed to any third parties.

To help you manage your privacy, we have provided you with a variety of tools and features to help you protect your device, protect your content, and protect your shared data. Continuously enhancing your user experience, while comprehensively protecting your personal privacy is our commitment, as well as our tireless pursuit.

2 Protecting Your Device

2.1 Lock Screen Password

You can enhance the security of your device with a lock screen password. Your lock screen password will be created and processed in a secure, isolated, and trusted environment. In addition, we have limited the number of password entry attempts to prevent your password from being cracked. Your lock screen password will also be used to encrypt and protect your personal data, which can effectively prevent unauthorized access to data without a password verification.

2.2 Fingerprint

Your fingerprint bears your inherent physiological characteristics and can be used in authentication. For example, you can use your fingerprint to unlock the screen of your Huawei device.

The steps for fingerprint recognition include: image acquisition, pre-processing, feature extraction, and matching. The fingerprint authentication process is completely conducted in a secure, isolated, and trusted environment within the device.

The fingerprint image will then be converted into feature templates, encrypted, and stored to a secure and isolated location on your device that is not accessible by Android or any other applications. Your fingerprint data will be kept in this isolated location and will not be stored to the cloud server or anywhere else on your device.

2.3 Find My Phone

You can log in to your Google account through Google Mobile Services or the official Google website and use Find My Device.

In addition, Huawei devices offer a device activation lock feature. Device activation lock will automatically activate as soon as Find My Device is enabled. If your device is lost and your stored data is forcibly cleared by an unauthorized user, Device activation lock will require your device to authenticate through your Google account in order to re-activate upon restarting. This prevents others from activating your device without your authorization.

3.2 Huawei Health

Huawei Health will ask you for permission to access a limited amount of data the first time you use the application to record and analyze your fitness and health data and provide you with wellness tips and services.

Once generated, it is up to you to decide how to use and share your fitness and health data. For example, you can decide which data to save, how the data is used, and who can access your data. Your health data will not be sent to any Huawei server automatically. When you decide to no longer share or use this data, you can stop saving and sharing your data, as well as completely delete your data from your device.

The local data on your phone is encrypted so that not even Huawei will be able to decrypt your data.

To access your photos, contacts, and other personal data, most applications are required to obtain your permission in advance. For pre-installed applications on your device, the first time you use your phone, you will be provided information regarding what information will be collected and then ask for your permission for collection of that data. Other applications will ask for your permission prior to collecting that information. 4.5 Location Service

4.6 Google Account

Your Google account is used to access all available Google services. You can log in with your Google account to access the Google Play Store and much more. It is very important to protect your Google account and to prevent unauthorized users from accessing your account. To accomplish this, Huawei recommends that you create strong passwords that are at least eight characters in length that contains both uppercase and lowercase letters and numbers and special characters or symbols. Based on these guidelines, you can create passwords that are more secure by adding a variety of character combinations up to a maximum limit of 60 characters.

4.7 Two-factor Authentication

Two-factor authentication is an extra layer of security and the best way to keep your Google account secure.

With this extra layer of security, your Google account can only be accessed through your trusted devices. When you log in to a new device with your Google account, you will be required to enter your password and a security verification code with a known trusted device. Completing the verification indicates that you trust this new device. For example, if you already own a Huawei Mate 9, and you attempt to log in to your newly purchased Huawei Mate 10 Pro with your Google account, you will be prompted to enter your password and the security verification code that appears on your Huawei Mate 9. This authentication mechanism significantly enhances the security of your Google account and the use of Google account services.
