[HUAWEI] When receiving an incoming call, my band/watch sometimes displays the caller's name and sometimes displays the number

Once you have paired your band/watch with your phone via Bluetooth, it will be automatically granted permission to access your phone's contacts. When you receive an incoming call and the caller has been saved as a contact (on the phone or the SIM card), the caller's name will be displayed. If the caller has not been saved, the caller's number will be displayed.

  • HUAWEI WATCH 3/4 series watches only sync contacts on your phone. Contacts on your phone's SIM card will not be synced to your watch. Please save the contacts to your phone.
  • HUAWEI TalkBand B5 does not display the names of contacts stored on SIM card 2.

For some contacts, if the contact name is sometimes displayed and the number is sometimes displayed, perform the following steps to troubleshoot the issue:

Grant the permission to access contacts

  • iPhones:
    1. Go to Settings > Bluetooth on your phone, touch the exclamation mark next to your band/watch name to enter the Settings screen, and enable Sync Contacts. (Ignore this if this switch is not available.)
    2. Go to Settings > Bluetooth on your phone to unpair your band/watch from the phone, then pair them again. Allow your band/watch to access your phone contacts when you pair your band/watch with your phone.
  • Third-party Android/HUAWEI phones:
    1. Go to Settings > Bluetooth on your phone, touch next to the name of your currently connected band/watch, and enable Contact sharing.

If your phone is running EMUI 14.0, go to Settings > Bluetooth, touch the settings icon next to the current band/watch name, touch Share contacts and call history, and select touch All information.

    2. On your phone, go to Settings > Apps & services > Apps, find the Huawei Health app, then go to Permissions > Contacts > Allowed. (This may vary depending on your phone model. For details, contact your phone manufacturer.)
    3. Unpair your band/watch from your phone by going to Settings > Bluetooth on the phone, then pair them again. Allow your band/watch to access your phone contacts when you pair your band/watch with your phone.

Due to system restrictions on third-party Android phones, contact names and numbers may not be displayed for incoming calls after the permission is enabled. Fix this issue according to [HUAWEI] Prompt "No contacts with numbers"/"Syncing..." displays when I add contacts on my third-party Android phone to my HUAWEI watch/band. If the issue persists, contact the manufacturer of the third-party phone.

Check whether the contact name contains special characters

If the contact name contains special characters, your watch/band may not be able to identify them. In this case, your watch/band will not display the contact name but will display the phone number instead. It is recommended that you use normal characters for contact names.

Check whether the contact number on your phone is prefixed with the international calling code (such as +86)

If the phone number is prefixed with an international calling code such as +86, the caller's name of the incoming call will not be displayed. It is recommended that you delete the international calling code, and try again.

If the issue persists

  • It is recommended that you save phone numbers to the phone memory. Your band/watch will access the contacts in the phone memory first and then those in the SIM card.
  • It is also recommended that you add contacts to Favorite on your phone.

Take the HUAWEI nova 9 as an example. Go to Phone app > Favorite, touch + in the upper area of the screen, select the contacts you want to add to Favorite, and touch Add. For the detailed adding methods about other phones, contact the corresponding phone manufacturer.

If the issue persists, please call the Huawei customer service hotline for further assistance.
