The 5G icon is not displayed on my 5G device

Currently, the 5G icon is displayed in the status bar of your HUAWEI device only for the primary SIM card. The secondary SIM card only supports 2G/3G/4G networks.

If the 5G icon is not displayed even for the primary SIM card, please try the troubleshooting steps below.

  1. Check if 5G is enabled on your device.

Swipe down from the status bar to open the notification panel and tap and hold the Mobile data icon to enter the settings screen. Select Preferred network mode and set it to 5G/4G/3G/2G auto.

If your device supports PrivateSpace or Multi-user mode, please bear in mind that you cannot change the mobile network settings in PrivateSpace, Guest, or Sub-user mode. Please return to Owner mode before trying to activate 5G.

  2. If you have subscribed to a 5G plan, contact your carrier and also have VoLTE HD calls services activated for you.

If you have subscribed to a 5G plan, but you haven't activated VoLTE HD calls services, this may affect the registration with the 5G network and the icon may not be displayed on your device.

  3. Power saving mode will disable the 5G network in order to save battery power.

If you want to use the 5G network, open the Settings, search for Power saving mode and deactivate this function.

If the 5G icon is still not displayed in the status bar, it may be that 5G Power Saving mode has been enabled. In this case, your device will automatically switch between 4G and 5G networks in order to save battery power.

To solve this, open the Settings, search for 5G Power Saving mode and disable it. If you cannot find this feature, it means that it is not supported by your device.

  4. If the same issue occurs on all nearby 5G devices using the same carrier's network, that area may not be covered by a 5G network.

Please move to another location and check if the issue was resolved or contact your carrier for further details about 5G network coverage.

  1. Some network settings may prevent your device from connecting to the 5G network within a short period of time.

Restart your phone or enable and disable Airplane mode to resolve the issue.

  2. Update your phone system to the latest version, or, if it is up to date, reset the network settings.

Open the Settings on your device, search for Reset network settings and perform the reset. This will delete all of your Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections. Once the reset is completed, try connecting your device to the 5G network again.

If none of the above solved the issue, back up your data and take your device and proof-of-purchase to an authorised Huawei Customer Service Centre or contact HUAWEI Customer Services for further assistance.
