How to Restore Lost Data?

Problem

The file is deleted accidentally and you want to restore it.

Solution

For deleted photos in Gallery

Please look for the deleted photos in your Recently deleted album in the Gallery app. If you have deleted the photos from your Recently deleted album, please follow the methods below to try and restore them from the backup data.

Restore from backup

Restore helps to retrieve the phone data from its previous data record. If you have not backed up your phone data, the deleted file cannot be restored from backup.

If you encrypted data during backup, you would be prompted to enter the password before proceeding with restore.

Restore from HiSuite

  1. Connect your phone with the computer to which you have backed up the files;
  2. Use an original data cable to connect your phone to HiSuite on your computer (Do not open the backup app on your phone as the computer will invoke it during the restoration);
  3. Launch HiSuite and tap Restore when connected;
  4. Select the data you want to restore to your phone;
  5. Tap Restore;
  6. Wait until the data restoration is completed.

During the restoration process, the phone will automatically turn on the screen. Do not manually lock the screen or disconnect the phone from the computer. Otherwise, the restoration may fail.

Restore from External storage Device

Prepare the USB storage device or an external storage card to which you have backed up your phone data.

Prepare an OTG cable for the USB storage device

  1. Connect your phone to the External storage device.
  2. Go to Settings > System & updates > Backup & restore > Data backup > External storage; (System for EMUI 9.X)
  3. Select the location from which your backup data will be restored:

    a. If you are using a Memory card for backup, ensure that you have backed up the data on this card before;

    b. If you are using a USB storage device for backup, ensure that your phone has been connected to a USB storage device. Then tap on the USB storage and select an appropriate backup record to access;

    c. If you are using a Shared folder for backup, ensure that your phone has detected the shared folder on your computer or home NAS devices through Wi-Fi scanning. Then tap on the Shared folder and select an appropriate backup record to access;

  4. Select the data to be restored and tap Restore;
  5. Wait until the data restoration is completed.

For Third party apps

If you deleted an item in a third-party app and wishes to retrieve it, check if there is trash file stored in the app and try to retrieve the deleted file from there.

If there is no trash file folder, or the item is not in there, it may be permanently deleted.

If the file is deleted by the device itself, please backup your data and bring the proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center for further help.
