If your device is running EMUI 9.X or Magic UI 2.X and above, you cannot set a maximum number of connections for your personal hotspot.

This feature was removed in order to avoid any errors that limit the number of connections and might prevent other devices from connecting properly to the Wi-Fi hotspot.This is why you cannot find the Max connections allowed option when touching and holding the hotspot icon in the notification panel or when going to Configure hotspot> Show advanced options.

For phones or tablets running EMUI 9.X/Magic UI 2.X and above, the maximum number of connections allowed for a personal hotspot is set to 8 by default.
