Setting the Narrator function in Windows 11

When Narrator is enabled, your computer can automatically read text on your screen or your operations.

It reads aloud and interacts with content such as text and buttons on the screen. You can use Narrator to read and write e-mails, browse the Internet, and edit documents.

  • After Narrator is enabled, touch gestures are required if you want to use the touchscreen on a computer. (For details, see "Narrator keyboard commands and touch gestures" on the official Microsoft website: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/22806.) Some apps do not support the Narrator function, and the touchscreen cannot be used. However, the touchpad functions are not affected. For example, in Narrator mode, you cannot use the touchscreen to operate PC Manager, but you can use the touchpad instead.
  • For more information about Narrator, visit the official Microsoft website at https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/22798.

To enable/disable Narrator, perform the following:

Press Win+Ctrl+Enter to turn on Narrator. To disable this function, click Turn off Narrator.

To set the Narrator function, perform the following:

  1. Press Win+I to open the Settings window and go to Accessibility > Narrator.

  2. You can set various functions for Narrator, such as using keyboard shortcuts to turn on Narrator and adjusting Narrator's speed.

If you do not want to automatically turn on Narrator upon computer startup, deselect Start Narrator after sign-in.
