Watch face description

In the Geometry of Feeling watch face design, Pleasure and Arousal are the two core parameters that drive the visual expression of emotions.

  • Pleasure dictates the shape of the graphic representation. When emotions are positive, the watch face displays soft, rounded forms like circles or arcs, symbolising relaxation and contentment. Neutral emotions are expressed through flat, regular shapes such as squares, evoking a sense of calm and equilibrium. Conversely, negative or tense emotions are represented by sharp, angular forms like rhombuses or irregular polygons, reflecting inner stress and discomfort.
  • Arousal, on the other hand, influences the dynamic quality and complexity of the visuals. In high-arousal moments, such as excitement or anxiety, the graphics exhibit rapid, dynamic movement and intricate, dense patterns, creating an active, energetic appearance. In low-arousal states, such as calmness or fatigue, the visuals move more slowly, with simpler, cleaner lines that resemble gentle breathing.
  • Colour plays a crucial role in enhancing emotional expression. Warm hues like yellow and orange are typically associated with positive emotions, while cool tones like turquoise conveys calmness and relaxation. Blue-violet, meanwhile, reflects negative or tense emotions. These colours shift gradually in intensity, amplifying the visual impact and making the emotional state more immediately recognisable.
