My HUAWEI band/watch screen is experiencing ghost touches or unresponsiveness

If your band/watch is insensitive or does not respond when you swipe on or tap the screen, or if the screen gets stuck, the issue may be caused by any of the following:

The band/watch software is not up to date

We will continuously optimize the user experience of touch controls through software updates. Please check for version updates and update your band/watch at your earliest convenience.

The screen is operated with wet hands or affected by static interference

The band/watch comes with a capacitive screen and will not work if you touch the screen with wet hands. If the screen or your fingers are wet, the screen may not respond to touch or may be unresponsive. In this case, dry the screen and your fingers before operating the screen.

In addition, if you are wearing special clothes, such as anti-static clothing, or if the air is dry (such as in autumn and winter), the screen may be turned on by mistake due to static electricity generated when the cuffs of the clothes rub against your body. As a result, the screen may be touched by mistake. To prevent this issue, disable the Raise to wake, Always On Display, and Tap to wake features (if any). Take HUAWEI WATCH 5 as an example. To disable these features, go to Settings > Display & brightness > Display, and disable all the switches. Then return to the previous screen, disable Tap to wake and Raise to wake.

Here are some special scenarios

  • The watch screen does not respond when you perform consecutive operations:

As shown in the following video, after entering a watch app, swipe to return to the app list screen. If you continue to swipe on the menu screen without removing your finger from the screen, the menu screen will not respond to your operation. This is normal. In this case, remove your finger from the screen and then try again.

  • There is a low probability that the watch screen is touched by mistake when the screen is locked:

HUAWEI WATCH 3/4/5 and Ultimate 2 Series support SOS calls on the password lock screen (as shown in the left figure below). You may accidentally tap the SOS shortcut to initiate an emergency call due to large wrist movements (such as strength training), wet hand touch, or human body electrical signals (such as wearing ESD clothes). In the preceding scenarios, it is recommended that you enable the lock screen feature in the Control Panel of the watch (as shown in the right figure below, by swiping down on the home screen of the watch face) to avoid this issue.

The SOS shortcut has been removed from the lock screen of HUAWEI WATCH 5 in version 5.1.0.215 to prevent mistouch. Please update your watch to the latest version as soon as possible. In case of an emergency, press the crown quickly five times in succession to initiate an SOS call.

  • There is a low probability that the watch face with multiple feature controls is accidentally touched.

The human body can conduct electricity. In some cases, the feature controls on the watch face are touched by the sleeve or other materials with human body electrical signals, as shown in the following figure, if you accidentally touch the controls on the watch face, the corresponding screen will display. For example, if you accidentally touch the call control, the call control will be triggered to make a call. If you accidentally touch the weather control, the watch face will not appear when you raise your wrist, but the Weather app will be opened. If you wear ESD clothes, it is recommended that you use another watch face in advance, alternatively, enable the lock screen feature in the Control Panel of your watch (as shown in the right figure below, by swiping down on the home screen of the watch face).

If the issue persists

If the issue is not caused by mistouch, feel free to contact our customer service.

If the cause is not identified from above, forcibly restart your band/watch and then try again.

  • For adult bands/watches, press and hold the Power button or the Crown button for more than 12 seconds until the HUAWEI logo is displayed on the screen.
  • For kids watches, power on the watch and press and hold the Home button or both the Home and Function buttons (depending on your device) until the HUAWEI logo is displayed on the screen.

If the issue persists or you find it difficult to use your device, there may be a hardware issue. In this case, back up your data, and take your device and proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center for assistance.
