4G/5G Internet is slow on my HUAWEI phone

Slow Internet may be caused by a poor network connection, incorrect use of a protective case, reaching the mobile data limit, a faulty SIM card, app abnormalities, or incorrect settings.

If the Internet is slow after registering your phone with a 4G/5G network, perform the following steps:

Avoid using a magnetic or a metal protective case, magnetic support, or magnetic cup

Metal and magnetic materials may interfere with the signal.

Poor network connection

It is recommended that you compare your phone with another phone using a SIM card from the same provider. If the same issue occurs with the other phone, the issue may be caused by poor network quality. In this case, try moving to another location, and try again.

Check whether your SIM card is faulty

  1. The amount of mobile data consumed exceeds your limit

Some unlimited mobile data plans may limit Internet access speed once the amount of data consumed exceeds a certain threshold. You can contact your network provider to check if you have consumed more data than what is permitted under your plan.

  2. The secondary card is invalid or has a negative balance

If the secondary SIM card has a negative balance or is invalid, your Internet access may be affected.

Open Settings, input SIM management or Dual SIM settings in the top search box, and disable the secondary SIM card or take it out.

  3. IoT card/data-only SIM card

Some IoT or data-only SIM cards may experience slow network speeds due to differences in subscription information. You can try again with a normal SIM card.

Check whether the app is at fault

If the Internet access speed is slow when you are using certain apps or browsing certain websites, try uninstalling and reinstalling the app in question. If the issue remains unresolved, the server may be faulty. In this case, contact the app or website personnel for assistance.

Disable Power Saving mode (or Power Saving mode)

It is recommended that you disable Power Saving mode or Power Saving mode by going to Settings > Battery > Power Saving mode/ULTRA POWER SAVING MODE/Power Saving mode, and make sure that the battery level is higher than 20%.

  • If Power Saving mode or Power Saving mode is enabled or the battery level is low, your phone will restrict certain phone features from working in order to extend the battery life.

Resetting the APN and network settings

If the issue remains unresolved, perform the following steps:

  1. Resetting APN

Open Settings, search for APNs in the top search box, and touch Access Point Names to access the Mobile data settings screen. Touch Access Point Names again, touch / in the upper right corner, and select Reset to default.

  2. Resetting the network settings

Open Settings, search for and access Reset network settings, and touch Reset network settings.

This will delete all of your Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connection records. The lock screen password is required for verification when doing so.

If the issue remains unresolved

If the issue remains unresolved, contact the Huawei customer service hotline, or back up your data and take your device and proof of purchase to an authorised Huawei Customer Service Center for assistance.
