Unable to connect an external device to my HUAWEI phone/tablet via OTG
Unable to connect an external device to my HUAWEI phone/tablet via OTG |
Make sure that the external device is correctly connected
Connect the devices in the following sequence:
- Connect the external device (such as a USB flash drive, NM card, or removable hard disk) to an OTG cable or card reader.
- Connect the OTG cable or card reader to your phone/tablet.
3. Access and transfer data on the device.
On-The-Go (OTG) is a USB transmission technology. HUAWEI phones/tablets running EMUI 5.0 or later support OTG by default. You can use an OTG cable to connect to an external device, such as a USB flash drive, mouse, keyboard, removable hard disk, OTG network adapter, or NM card, and access files in the external storage device. You will not need to turn on any switch to use this feature.
If the issue persists, perform the following to troubleshoot:
ES File Explorer has been installed on your phone/tablet
If you have downloaded ES File Explorer and enabled USB plug-in message, the external device may not be identified. Go to ES File Explorer > Settings > Display settings, disable USB plug-in message, and try again.
The adapter or transfer cable is faulty
If the external device still cannot be identified after the preceding operations are performed, the adapter or transfer cable may be faulty. Use another adapter or transfer cable and try again. If the connection is normal, it indicates that the adapter or transfer cable is faulty.
- Connect to a USB flash drive, keyboard, USB key, headset, or mouse: If your phone/tablet has a Type-C port, it is recommended that you purchase a dedicated Type-C adapter from an official Huawei channel.
The external device is faulty or incompatible
Connect the external device (such as a USB flash drive, portable hard disk, mouse, or keyboard) to another phone/tablet/computer to check whether the external device can be identified.
- If not, the external device may be damaged. In this case, use another external device and try again.
- If so, it is recommended that you connect your device to another storage device. If your device can identify the device, it indicates that the problem is caused by incompatibility between your device and the previous external device. In this case, it is recommended that you try another external device or contact the vendor to check whether the device has been adapted to your HUAWEI device.
There are various external device models and types, and the compatibility varies. Actual adaptation shall prevail.
- Connecting to an OTG network adapter: Some OTG network adapters may be incompatible with your device. It is recommended that you ask the vendor whether the OTG network adapter is compatible with HUAWEI devices before purchasing it.
- Connecting to a removable hard disk: Some removable hard disks that have strict requirements on the supply voltage may fail to be identified when the voltage is insufficient. Use another removable hard drive and check whether a connection can be established. If a connection can be established, the issue is related to the specific removable hard disk that you were previously using.
If the issue persists
If the issue remains unresolved or you encounter any difficulties while performing these steps, back up your data and take your proof of purchase, phone/tablet, external device (microphone, mouse, USB flash drive, etc.), and OTG cable to an authorised Huawei Customer Service Centre for assistance. We will do our best to address your needs.
