Workout distance and duration are not displayed during a skiing activity on my HUAWEI watch

Ensure the following conditions are met for skiing data to display on the watch

(1) Be sure to wait till GPS positioning works properly before you start skiing. Please note that indoor skiing monitoring is not available on the watch due to weak or undetectable GPS signals indoors.

(2) You will need to slide at least 10 metres continuously up or down a slope with a minimum elevation change of one metre, for the watch to successfully detect that you're skiing.

(3) The workout duration for Skiing and Snowboarding modes on the watch is based solely on the actual time spent skiing, excluding periods of rest.

Cross-country skiing: The workout distance and duration are recorded after the workout is started.

Skiing and snowboarding: The workout duration is based solely on the actual time spent skiing, excluding periods of rest.

If the issue persists, perform the following steps to troubleshoot:

Ensure the air pressure hole on your watch is free from obstructions and liquid

A blocked or liquid-logged hole can prevent the watch from tracking elevation changes and monitoring workout data.

You can play music or ringtones on your watch to check whether the sound is clear. If not, the hole may be blocked by foreign objects or have liquid inside. In this case, hold your watch with the hole facing down, gently clean the hole with a soft brush, and shake the watch to remove any liquid. Then allow the device to dry fully before checking if the issue is resolved.

The position of the air pressure hole varies depending on the watch model. The following figure shows the positions of the air pressure hole on HUAWEI WATCH GT 4 Series/HUAWEI WATCH GT 5 Series. (For other watch models, clean the hole on the rear case of the watch before checking again.)

Check if the GPS signal on the watch is weak or not working at all

If the watch plays a voice prompt "The location signal is weak. Please avoid obstacles." during a workout, it indicates that the GPS signal on the watch is weak. As a result, the watch cannot track location changes or monitor workout data.

GPS signals are greatly affected by environmental factors, including high-rise buildings, signal reflections, interference from metal objects, and surface reflections from large bodies of water (such as lakes or seas). As a result, GPS positioning may be slow or the workout route may be inaccurate.

If you are using an iPhone or a HUAWEI phone, it is recommended that you keep your watch/band paired with and connected to the Huawei Health app and take your phone with you. In this case, your watch/band can obtain the GPS signal of your phone to ensure optimal route tracking.

If positioning still fails on the watch, take your device and proof of purchase to an authorised Huawei Customer Service Centre for assistance.
