The default PDF opening method is changed to Edge

Problem

After the user changed the mode for opening the PDF file to other software and restarted the computer, the PDF file is opened by default in the Edge browser.

Cause

The registry is tampered with or the PDF is affected by third-party software.

Solution

Solution 1: Use the script to suspend the Windows UserChoice Protection Driver service.

1. Download the disable_ucpd.rar script file, right-click the downloaded file and select Extract here. Right-click the unzipped file and choose Run as administrator. After the running is complete, restart the computer.
2. After the restart, search for "CMD" in the Start menu, right-click it, and choose Run as administrator. Run the sc query UCPD command and press Enter. Ensure that STATE is STOPPED. If not, exit the background security software and perform step 1 again.

Solution 2: Uninstall the third-party software.

Search for and open "Control Panel", click Uninstall a program, and uninstall the third-party bundled apps that are no longer used (non-official apps that were downloaded from unofficial websites). Pay special attention to the apps that were installed or updated recently, such as Xundu and iReader. You can refer to Uninstall apps from a HUAWEI computer to uninstall the apps. After the uninstallation is complete, restart your computer.

Solution 3: Restore the computer to its factory settings.

Back up important data in advance. Power on the computer and press and hold F10 to restore your computer to its factory settings.
