Bluetooth uses a variety of protocols, each fulfilling a certain function.

A2DP

A2DP stands for Advanced Audio Distribution Profile.It is the Bluetooth protocol responsible for transmitting high quality stereo audio signals from one device to another (for example, the music streamed from your mobile phone to a Bluetooth headset or speaker).

AVRCP

AVRCP (Audio / Video Remote Control Profile) is the protocol used for controlling the music playback on your smartphone from a connected Bluetooth device (for example for pausing or playing a song, or skipping to the next track).

LE

LE stands for Low Energy. It the protocol that ensures the Bluetooth connection with BLE devices, such as bands, smartwatches or other wearables.

HSP

HSP (Handset Profile) is the most commonly used profile, as it provides the basic functionalities needed for the connection between your smartphone and a headset.

HFP

HFP, or Hands Free Profile, allows Bluetooth car kits to communicate with mobile phones.

HID

HID (Human Interface Device Profile) provides support for wireless peripherals, such as Bluetooth keyboards, mouses or joysticks.

MAP

MAP (Message Access Profile) facilitates the SMS synchronisation between your phone and other connected Bluetooth devices.

OPP

OPP (Object Push Profile) is responsible for data and file transfers via Bluetooth.

PAN

PAN (Personal Area Networking Profile) allows you to share mobile data connections using Bluetooth.

PBAP

PBAP (Phone Book Access Profile) allows the contacts stored on your phone to be synced with other devices via Bluetooth.
