It is recommended that you update your phone at your earliest convenience to ensure optimal security and a better experience.
Your phone/tablet prompts you to update to the latest version or automatically update to the latest version because Auto-download over Wi-Fi are Update overnight are enabled. If you do not wish to automatically update the system version, perform the following operations:
Disable Auto-download over Wi-Fi (this feature is enabled by default)
- If you do not wish the system to automatically download update packages, go to Settings, search for and access Software update, tap the four-dot icon in the upper right corner, then Settings (This device), and disable Auto-download over Wi-Fi/Auto-download over Wi-Fi.
With Auto-download over Wi-Fi enabled by default, when the battery level is greater than 50% and the device is connected to a Wi-Fi network, it will automatically download the latest update packages, and prompt you to install the update when the download has completed. If you select to update manually, make sure that the device has sufficient power. The update cannot be performed if the battery level is lower than 20%.
- If you have enabled Developer options, open Settings, search for and access Developer options, find Automatic system updates, and disable it.
It requires a solid understanding of the phone/tablet features for the settings in Developer options to be properly set. It is strongly recommended that you disable Developer options in daily use, to prevent any possible errors or faults rising from improper settings.
Disable Update overnight
- If you do not wish to use the Update overnight feature, you can go to Settings, search for and open Software update, tap the four-dot icon in the upper right corner, and disable Update overnight.
The Update overnight switch is disabled by default. (Update overnight is not available for certain models. Users can tap on the Keep your software up to date screen to enable automatic update download, or tap Update manually to disable automatic update download.)
- When Update overnight is enabled, your device will automatically install a downloaded system update package between 2:00 to 4:00 a.m. if the following conditions are met:
- The battery level is higher than 35% when not being charged, or higher than 10% while charging.
- Your device is not being used, and the screen is locked.
- Your device is powered on, and there is no active alarms within the next 30 minutes.
- When Update overnight is enabled, your device will automatically install a downloaded system update package between 2:00 to 4:00 a.m. if the following conditions are met:
- If the following message is displayed after you disable Update overnight, select Remind me later/Cancel.
- After an update package has been downloaded and is not yet installed, the lock screen will ask whether you wish to perform an Update overnight. If you would like this feature to take effect, enter your lock screen password. If you do not need an overnight update, tap Update overnight in the upper right corner to access the lock screen.
