What image stabilisation technologies do HUAWEI phones support?

AI image stabilisation (AIS)

AIS is an image stabilisation technology powered by AI.

It allows cameras to take videos or take pictures even in low light conditions, which remain sharp, detailed, and blur-free.

Optical image stabilisation (OIS)

OIS is a mechanical image stabilisation technology powered by a special motor structure in the camera lenses.

It stabilises the photography process by calculating the phone's movement and moving the lens, to achieve optical compensation with a gyroscope. Among all image stabilisation technologies, it delivers the best image effect in most cases.

Electronic image stabilisation (EIS)

EIS is an image stabilisation technique implemented by cropping images.

Generally, it only displays the part of the image in the centre of the photosensitive chip. Once the phone shakes while a video or photo is taken, EIS adjusts the cropping position on the photosensitive chip to counteract the movement and ensure a stable image.

Sensor image stabilisation (Sensor Shift)

Sensor Shift is a mechanical image stabilisation technology powered by a special motor structure.

It uses a gyroscope to calculate the phone's movement, but moves the sensor for optical compensation. Therefore, compared with OIS, Sensor Shift improves the dynamic capture effect. In addition, except for the X and Y axis, Sensor Shift also supports compensation on the R axis (rotation on the plane, as shown in the yellow axis in the figure below), which allows for an enhanced shooting experience.
