Office activation prerequisites

 

• Your computer is pre-installed with Office Home and Student edition.
• Once you've used a Microsoft account to activate Office, the account will be permanently linked to Office and can't be changed to another Microsoft account. If your computer had been restored to its factory settings, re-activate Microsoft Office using the Microsoft account that was used for activating Microsoft Office for the first time.
• Benefits of an activated Microsoft account can't be migrated to another Microsoft account.
• There is no time limit for activating the pre-installed Office Home and Student edition on your computer.

1. The pre-installed Office on your computer is to be activated for the first time.

2. The pre-installed Windows system on your computer has been activated.

3. You need to activate the pre-installed Office at least two hours after your computer's Windows system has been activated.

4. You need to preferentially use your personal email address to register a Microsoft account and then activate the pre-installed Office.

5. When you're activating the pre-installed Office, keep your computer connected to the Internet and use a network environment where the product was purchased (such as the Chinese mainland).

Office activation procedures

Method 1: Activate Office by redeeming the product key online.

Method 2: Activate Office using benefits claimed from the Microsoft Store.

  The operation procedures and UX interfaces may vary depending on the Microsoft Office edition.

  1. To create a Word, Excel, or PowerPoint file on the desktop, right-click any blank area on the desktop, choose New, and then select any of Word, Excel, or PowerPoint. The following uses Word as an example.

  2. After opening the new document, sign in with your Microsoft account.
     

     After you enter your Microsoft account and password, if the message "Please wait" or a white screen is displayed, refer to the FAQ "A white screen or the message 'We couldn't contact the server' is displayed when I sign in with my Microsoft account to activate Office on my HUAWEI computer".

     • If you do not have a Microsoft account

       Click Create Account and follow the instructions to register one. (Note that your age must be 14 years old or above for registering an account.) If you are younger than 14 years old, you need to obtain your parent's or guardian's consent for registering an account and then use it to activate the pre-installed Office on your computer.

       

       When registering a Microsoft account, you will be verified that you are not a robot. Please follow the system instructions to finish the verification.

     • If you have a Microsoft account, click Sign in. (It is recommended that you sign in with a Microsoft account that has not been used to activate other Office apps.) After you've signed in with your account, click Next.
        

       • If you forgot your Microsoft Office account and password, you can retrieve it, refer to Retrieve or reset my Microsoft Office account and password on my HUAWEI computer.
       • If a message is displayed indicating that your parent's or guardian's consent is required when you sign in with your Microsoft account, refer to The message "Parent or guardian consent is required for this account" is prompted when I sign in with a Microsoft account using my HUAWEI computer.

  3. In the pop-up for confirming your settings, select the option that you'd like to receive messages, tips, and offers about Microsoft 365 and Office, and click Next.

  4. In the pop-up for agreeing to Microsoft Services Agreement, click Confirm.

  5. After the settings are complete, your Office has been linked to your Microsoft account and you can click Get Started to use it.

  6. You will then be asked whether you want to go to the page for accepting the licence agreement.
     • If you are redirected to the page, follow Step 7 to continue activating Office.
     • If not, perform the following operations and then follow Step 7 to continue activating Office.
       1. Click the option to start redeeming the product key online.

       2. Click Sign in and follow the onscreen instructions to sign in with your Microsoft account.

       3. Select your country or region and your language and click Next.

       4. In the pop-up for getting Office, click Next. You will then be prompted with a message indicating that Office has been activated.
       5. Restart your Office.

  7. In the pop-up for accepting the licence agreement, click Accept.

  8. In the Microsoft respects your privacy pop-up, click Next in the lower right corner.

  9. Select No, don't send optional data and click Accept in the lower right corner.

  10. After a while, the system will prompt you to finish activation. Click Finish in the lower right corner.

  11. Once Office has been activated, it will be permanently valid. You can click File > Account to view the Office product activation information. If no message, such as activation required or unauthorized, is displayed, it indicates that your Office has been activated.

• Method 2: Activate Office using benefits claimed from the Microsoft Store.
  1. Open Microsoft Store, sign in with your registered Microsoft account, and go to Library > Included with device.

     Click here to go to Microsoft Store > Library.

  2. Follow the onscreen instructions to claim benefits.

  3. After you've finished claiming, open any Office app. (The following uses Word as an example.) Sign in with the Microsoft account that has claimed benefits, and click Next.

  4. In the pop-up for confirming your settings, select the option that you'd like to receive messages, tips, and offers about Microsoft 365 and Office, click Next, and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the activation.

Check the Office edition and activation status

 

• If you're using Microsoft Office Home and Student 20XX, such an Office edition will be permanently valid after activation.
• If you're using Microsoft Office 365 Personal, the trial period is usually one month and you will then need to pay for use.

Method 1: View product information in Office.

Right-click any blank area on the desktop to create or open a Word, Excel, or PowerPoint file, go to File > Account, and view the Office activation status and version from the product information. If no message, such as activation required or unauthorized, is displayed, it indicates that your Office has been activated. The following uses Word as an example.

The number displayed under About Word is the updated version number of Office. For example, version 2105 indicates the version was updated in May 2021.

Method 2: View product information by signing in with your Microsoft account.

1. Visit the Microsoft Office website (http://www.office.com/myaccount) and sign in with your Microsoft account.
2. Check your services and subscriptions to see if your Office product has linked with the corresponding Office edition. (The edition shown below is Office Home and Student 2019).
   

   Microsoft recommends that you do not link multiple Office products to one account. Otherwise, confusion may occur during subsequent activation. Users can have at most 25 Office entitlements linked to one Microsoft account.
