| Introduction to Safe mode on HUAWEI phones/tablets |
Safe mode on HUAWEI phones/tablets is a minimum system environment that loads only basic functions and pre-installed apps. Similar to the Safe mode on Windows, Safe mode on HUAWEI phones/tablets can be used to fix some system errors. For instance, if the system continuously reports errors or the phone/tablet fails to power on during third-party app installation, the user can enter Safe mode to uninstall abnormal apps and fix the system.
How to enter Safe mode
During the power-on process, press and hold the Volume up button and Power button at the same time until the HUAWEI logo is displayed. The Safe mode screen will then appear when the buttons are released. Press the Volume button to select Safe mode and press the Power button to confirm.

- If the device is running EMUI 9.1 or later, press and hold the Power button and Volume up button during the power-on process. If the device is running a version earlier than EMUI 9.1, press and hold the Power button and Volume down button during the power-on process. "Safe mode" will then appear in the lower left corner of the screen. For the Mate 30 Pro series, after the phone vibrates upon power-on, press the Power button for five consecutive times.
- After entering Safe mode, your phone/tablet will automatically enter Airplane mode. You can disable Airplane mode to use your phone/tablet as normal.
- In Safe mode, the Safe mode icon will be displayed in the lower left corner of the screen.
- Safe mode will not damage any software or personal data.
How to exit Safe mode
Press the Power button to restart the device. Then you can exit Safe mode.
If you do not disable Airplane mode in Safe mode, you will need to enter the lock screen password after the device restarts. After entering Normal mode, manually disable Airplane mode.
Functions of Safe mode
If your device cannot be powered on or the system keeps reporting errors during the installation of a third-party app, this can be fixed by going to Safe mode > Apps, selecting the app in question, and uninstalling it.

If your device cannot be operated in Normal mode, you can enter Safe mode to perform operations such as uninstalling apps or troubleshooting.
