Unable to adjust the screen brightness of my HUAWEI computer

Problem

  • Pressing F1 or F2 only cannot adjust the screen brightness.
  • The brightness cannot be adjusted by going to Settings > System > Display, or the brightness slider setting changes but the actual brightness does not change by pressing the shortcut key for brightness adjustment or by moving the brightness slider.
  • Screen brightness cannot be adjusted only by using the Windows operation center of the taskbar at the lower right corner.
  • After the user adjusts the brightness using the slider on the Windows operation center of the display settings or taskbar, or by pressing F1 or F2, the slider reverts to its original setting. (In case of brightness adjustment using the display settings, the window needs to be closed and opened again for the change to take effect.)
  • When automatic brightness adjustment is enabled, the screen brightness does not adapt to the ambient light.

  3. The Windows system is faulty.

Problem 3:

This is a known issue of Windows 23H2, which has been submitted to Microsoft for patch updates.

Problem 4:

The Windows system may be faulty.

Problem 5:

  1. The switch for automatic brightness adjustment is turned off.
  2. The ambient light sensor of the screen is blocked by dirt, foreign objects, or protective film.
  3. The ambient light sensor may not work when the screen brightness is too low.
  4. The Windows system is faulty.

Solution

  • Problem 1:

You can press Fn+F1/F2 to adjust the brightness.

  • Problem 2:
    1. For details, see Updating my HUAWEI computer's Windows system to the latest version. Click the Windows icon and then the Settings icon. Select Windows Update (or go to Update & Security > Windows Update). In Windows Update, click Check for updates. The system will automatically download and install the updates. Update the Windows system to the latest version and restart the system after the system patch is installed. If the system has been updated to the latest version, restart the system.

Click here to open the Windows Update page.

    1. Go to Settings > System > Display, click the small arrow to open the drop-down list, select Automatically adjust brightness when light changes, and try again.

For certain models without ambient light sensors, the computer does not support automatic brightness adjustment. Therefore, Automatically adjust brightness when light changes will not be displayed.

  • Problem 3:

Save the documents that are being edited (if any) and restart the computer.

  • Problem 4:

Rectify the problem by referring to the solution to problem 2. If the problem persists, uninstall or reinstall the integrated graphics card driver as follows:

    1. Press Win+X and then press the M key on the keyboard, or press Win+X and select Device Manager from the list that is displayed in the lower left corner to open it.
    2. Uninstall the old version of the graphics card driver.
      1. In Device Manager, expand Display adapters, right-click the Intel(R) or AMD graphics device, and select Uninstall device from the shortcut menu.

      2. In the displayed Uninstall Device dialog box, select the check box Delete the driver software for this device. and click Uninstall.

    3. Use Huawei PC Manager to update the graphics card driver to the latest version. For details, see Install a driver on a HUAWEI computer.

  • Problem 5:
    1. According to step 2 of the solution to problem 2, select Change brightness automatically when lighting changes and try again.
    1. Ensure that the ambient light sensor of the screen is not covered by objects (such as oil or water stains, and a protective film). The screen brightness automatically adapts to the strength of light detected by the ambient light sensor. When this sensor is covered, the screen brightness cannot be automatically adjusted. Clean the screen or replace the protective film with a new one.
    2. Increase the screen brightness and try again. When the screen brightness is low, the ambient light sensor may not work. Press F2 (or Fn+F2) on the keyboard to adjust the brightness.
