Photos are missing in Gallery after a system update on my HUAWEI phone/tablet

If the photos are missing in Gallery after your phone/tablet is updated, wait for 30 minutes and then go to Gallery to view the photos. If the issue persists, try the following:

1. Delete Gallery data

  1. Open Settings, and search for and access the Apps screen.
  2. Go to Gallery > Storage > CLEAR DATA.

Deleting Gallery data will not delete photos from Gallery, but will cause the following:

    • My favorites, Highlights, Discover, and albums disappear.
    • The Highlights and Discover albums are automatically generated after the phone has been charged for a while with the screen off.
    • You'll need to favorite the My favorites album again.
  3. Open Gallery to check whether the photos are there.

2. Check whether the photo folder name contains special characters

Check whether the pre-update photo folder name contains special characters, such as the number sign (#), at sign (@), and percent sign (%).

The Folder Name Does Not Contain Special Characters

The Folder Name Contains Special Characters

  1. Go to Files > Browse > Internal storage (Phone/My tablet).
  2. Go to the corresponding folder, such as go to DCIM > Camera, to check whether the photos are there.
    • If so, wait for a while and then access Gallery to check again.
    • If not, back up your data and take your device and proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center for assistance.
  1. In this case, you may see the number of photos in Gallery but be unable to browse them after the update.
  2. Rest assured that the photos are not lost. Back up your data and take your device and proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center for assistance.
