What is the difference between Wi-Fi Repeater mode and HarmonyOS Mesh+, and how do I select which one to use? |
Both Wi-Fi Repeater mode and HarmonyOS Mesh+ can extend the Wi-Fi coverage.
- Wi-Fi Repeater mode
- Connection mode: Wi-Fi connection
- Does not support smart roaming: Wi-Fi Repeater mode cannot switch your device to a router with better Wi-Fi signal reception automatically. For example, if you connect router 1 in room A to router 2 in room B using Wi-Fi Repeater mode, when you connect to the Wi-Fi network of router 1 in room A and you go to room B and try to connect to router 2 which has a better Wi-Fi signal reception, you need to switch manually.
- Does not support simultaneous specifications modification: If you modify the Wi-Fi name and password of your primary router, the secondary router will be disconnected from your primary router. The modifications cannot be synced to the secondary router.
Wi-Fi Repeater mode can be used only when the primary router does not support HarmonyOS Mesh+ (with no H/Hi button), while the secondary router supports Wi-Fi Repeater mode.
- HarmonyOS Mesh+
- Connection mode: direct cable connection, Wi-Fi connection, or H/Hi button connection
- Supports smart roaming: You can use smart roaming among multiple routers. For example, if you connect router 1 in room A to router 2 in room B using HarmonyOS Mesh+, when you connect to the Wi-Fi network of router 1 in room A and you go to room B and try to connect to router 2 which has a better Wi-Fi signal reception, the connection will be switched automatically, and no manual configuration is required.
- Supports the synchronization of specifications modification: If you modify the Wi-Fi name and password of your primary router, the modification will be applied to the secondary router simultaneously.
HarmonyOS Mesh+ can be used when both the primary router and secondary router support HarmonyOS Mesh+ (having either an H button or a Hi button).
You can select a network connection mode based on different usage scenarios:
- If both routers in your home support HarmonyOS Mesh+ (having either an H button or a Hi button), it is recommended that you use HarmonyOS Mesh+.
- If you have old wireless routers that can connect to the network, but do not support HarmonyOS Mesh+, it is recommended that you use Wi-Fi Repeater mode to expand the coverage of your Wi-Fi network.
Thanks for your feedback.
