The Wi-Fi network list is not displayed in Guest mode
The Wi-Fi network list is not displayed in Guest mode |
Problem:
After switching to Guest mode, the Wi-Fi network list is not displayed in the system Wi-Fi settings screen, and there is a prompt indicating that you don't have the permission to change the Wi-Fi network.
Cause:
Cause: A guest doesn't have the permission to switch to a different Wi-Fi network, and therefore the Wi-Fi network list will not be displayed when you are using your phone in Guest mode. After you exit Guest mode, the Wi-Fi network list will be displayed as normal.
Solution:
If you want to view the list of available Wi-Fi networks, go to Settings > Users & accounts > Users and switch to Owner mode.
4.2.3 The phone cannot find a Wi-Fi hotspot
Check whether all Wi-Fi hotspots cannot be found (the Wi-Fi list is empty) or a specific Wi-Fi hotspot cannot be found.
1. No Wi-Fi can be found (the Wi-Fi network list is empty).
- The Wi-Fi network list is empty and there is a prompt indicating that you don't have permission to change the Wi-Fi network
You have switched to Guest mode, which doesn't have permission to switch to a different Wi-Fi network, and therefore the Wi-Fi network list will not be displayed when you are using your phone in Guest mode. To resolve this issue, switch back to Owner mode and connect to another Wi-Fi network.
To do so, go to Settings > Users & accounts > Users and switch to Owner mode.
- The Wi-Fi network list is empty and there is no prompt
- Check that your phone is within the coverage of the Wi-Fi network.
Use another phone/tablet to search for Wi-Fi networks.
① If other devices cannot find the Wi-Fi network either, it indicates that there is no Wi-Fi network coverage. Check the Wi-Fi router or use mobile data.
② If other devices can find the Wi-Fi network, troubleshoot the issue.
- Check whether the Wi-Fi switch is enabled on the phone.
Swipe down from the status bar and turn on the Wi-Fi switch. If Wi-Fi has been enabled, turn off the switch and turn it on again.
Note: If Wi-Fi cannot be enabled or disabled, or the switch is grayed out, see Unable to enable or disable Wi-Fi.
- Reset network settings.
Go to Settings > System > Reset > Reset network settings (or search for "Reset network settings" on the system settings screen).
Note: Resetting network settings will clear all your phone's Wi-Fi and Bluetooth data.
- If the issue persists, back up your data and take your device and proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center for assistance.
A specific Wi-Fi network cannot be found
If a specific Wi-Fi network cannot be found, use another phone/tablet to search for the Wi-Fi network, and troubleshoot the issue based on the following:
1. The Wi-Fi network still cannot be found on other devices. |
|
1.1 Check whether the Wi-Fi router works properly. |
If the router has been used for a long time, restart it and try again. |
1.2 Check whether the router has hidden its Wi-Fi name. |
If the router has hidden its Wi-Fi name, the downstream device will not be able to find it. Disable the hotspot hiding function of the router or manually add a network on your phone. (To manually add a network, access the Wi-Fi network list, add a network, and then enter the name and password of the network.) |
1.3 If the issue persists, your router or Wi-Fi network may be abnormal. Contact your carrier to check the network status or restore your router to its factory settings. |
2. The Wi-Fi network can be found on other devices. |
|
2.1 Check whether a third-party app is used to search for the Wi-Fi network. (If the system Wi-Fi function is used, troubleshoot the issue by referring to section 2.2.) |
This issue will occur when a third-party Wi-Fi app, such as WiFi Master Key, is unable to obtain your phone's location. ① Swipe down from the status bar to open the notification panel, and turn on the Location switch. ② Open Settings, search for and touch Permissions, select Permissions, then touch Location or Access location info to check whether the app in question has been granted the permission. ③ Check whether the Wi-Fi network can be found on your phone's system settings. If so, the issue lies with the third-party app. In this case, update the app on Huawei AppGallery or use a similar app instead. |
2.2 Check the device edition. |
Wi-Fi channels will vary depending on countries and regions, resulting in the Wi-Fi function of different editions of the same device being restricted by countries and regions. For example, if you are using a Chinese edition phone outside China or an international edition phone in China, it is recommended that you insert a local SIM card to register with the local network and then search for Wi-Fi hotspots. |
2.3 Check whether the frequency band of the Wi-Fi hotspot is consistent with that selected on the phone. |
① Search for keywords such as "Model and Wi-Fi frequency band" in WeKnow to check the frequency bands supported by the phone. ② Check the frequency band set on the phone and on the router. If your phone only supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, it will not be able to detect 5 GHz Wi-Fi hotspots. In this case, switch the Wi-Fi hotspot to the 2.4 GHz frequency band and try again. (To set a common router, go to the router configuration screen, access the general settings screen or router settings screen, and then select the required frequency band.) |
2.4 Change the frequency band and channel settings of the router. |
① If the frequency band is 2.4 GHz, select channels 1, 6, and 11. ② If the frequency band is 5 GHz, select channel 149. (To set a common router, perform the following: Go to the router configuration screen, access the Wi-Fi channel or signal channel settings screen, and select the corresponding channel.) For details about how to configure a Huawei router, refer to How to set the Wi-Fi channel of a Huawei router. For routers of other brands, consult the corresponding provider. |
2.5 Check the Wi-Fi hotspot encryption mode of the router. |
① If the encryption mode is set to Enhanced Open, WPA3 Personal, or WPA3 Enterprise, your phone may not be able to find the Wi-Fi network due to compatibility issues. ② Change the encryption mode to Open, Enhanced Open /Open, WPA2/WPA3 Personal or WPA2/WPA3 Enterprise and try again. (To set a common router, perform the following: Go to the router configuration screen, access the Wi-Fi name and password settings screen, and select the required encryption mode.) For details about how to configure a Huawei router, refer to How to set the Wi-Fi encryption mode of a Huawei router. For routers of other brands, consult the corresponding provider. |
4. If the preceding operations cannot resolve the issue, collect the following information and contact senior engineers for further processing: (1) Phone model (2) System version (3) Router brand and model (4) Wi-Fi name (5) Wi-Fi encryption mode (6) Distance between the phone and the router (7) Whether the Wi-Fi name of the router is hidden |
