The color of the virtual navigation bar varies between apps on my HUAWEI phone/tablet

Problem:

The user reports that the virtual navigation bar is black in some third-party apps and white in others.

Cause:

  • The virtual navigation bar is white by default. However, if you grant certain apps permission to change the color of the virtual navigation bar in the app settings, and these apps choose to set the color themselves, the virtual navigation bar may be black instead. This is why there may be some variation between different apps.
  • In third-party apps that are not designed for full screen display, the navigation bar and blank screen areas will change to black less than 5 seconds after you open the app in order to improve your viewing experience.

Solution:

To display non-full screen apps in full screen, perform the following:

EMUI 8.X: Go to Settings > Display > Full screen display.

EMUI 9.X/Magic UI 2.X or later: Touch Settings, go to More display settings > Full-screen display, and enable full screen display for the app.
