Unable to delete downloaded installation packages from a Huawei phone/tablet

Update packages downloaded to the device cannot be deleted before the update is performed. System updates are generally designed to improve the device's performance, enhance privacy and personal data security, and provide new functions. Therefore, it is recommended that system updates are performed at the earliest convenience when they become available. After the update, the update package will be automatically deleted and will not take up any of the device's storage space.

  • If the user insists on deleting the update package, instruct them to update the system using the following method:
    1. Check the version number in Software update. Open Settings, search for and access Apps, find Software update, and check the version number of it. If the version number is 10.1.0.180 or later, it indicates that the downloaded installation packages can be deleted.
    2. Delete downloaded installation packages. Open Settings, search for and access Apps, and go to Software update > Storage > Clear data.
  • You can also advise the user to disable the auto-download over Wi-Fi function to prevent the phone from automatically downloading installation packages over Wi-Fi:

Open Settings, search for and access Software update, touch Settings in the upper right corner (or go to > Settings), and disable Auto-download over Wi-Fi.
