You can enable an app to run in the background. In this case, even if you do not perform operations in the app window, the app can still receive messages, send notifications, or update in the background. If you find that the app running in the background consumes much battery power, you can also disable it to run in the background.

- Click the Windows icon
and then the Settings icon
, and go to (or ).

- Find the desired app, touch the three-dot icon next to the app, and select Advanced options.
- Under Background app permissions, select Always or Power optimized (recommended).
- Always: Apps are always running in the background. You can receive messages, send notifications, and update apps. Selecting this option may cause higher power consumption.
- Power optimized (recommended): Windows will decide the best way to help save maximum power while ensuring that apps receive notifications and updates periodically. Selecting this option may restrict apps from using more features.

, and click Privacy.
- Select Background apps and toggle on the switch under Let apps run in the background. In the Choose which apps can run in the background list, toggle on the switch next to the apps to enable them to run in the background.

- Find the desired app, touch the three-dot icon next to the app, and select Advanced options.
Some apps may not have the Advanced options. Windows policies typically include the Advanced options for UWP apps, while Win32 apps do not. (You can check which options are available for each app.)
- Under Background app permissions, select Never.

- Toggle on the switch under Let apps run in the background. In the Choose which apps can run in the background list, toggle off the switch next to the apps to disable them to run in the background.
