Disabling the firewall function on a HUAWEI CPE

A firewall serves as a security barrier between the Internet and your home network. After enabled on the web-based management page, it can effectively protect your network security.

The firewall function is enabled by default. To ensure network security, it is recommended that you keep the firewall function enabled.

  1. Connect your phone or computer to the CPE's Wi-Fi (or connect your computer to the CPE's LAN port using a cable). Enter 192.168.8.1 in the address box of the browser, and enter the login password to access the web-based management page of the CPE.
  2. Select Advanced > Security > Firewall and deselect Enable firewall to disable the firewall function.

    • The firewall, whether enabled or disabled, does not limit access to the devices connected to the CPE from an external network. To access the devices connected to the CPE from an external network, use an IPv4 address and configure rules for the corresponding virtual server. IPv6 addresses do not support access to the devices connected to the CPE.
    • When the ping function is disabled on the WAN port, external networks cannot ping the WAN-side IPv4/IPv6 public IP address of the CPE. Disable the function, the ping operation will succeed.
    • To configure IP address filtering, domain name filtering, and MAC address filtering, select the corresponding options.
