If you hear sharp dental consonants, the sound you make is noisy to your teammates, or there is a slight static noise when you are listening to music or playing games, don't worry. These issues can be significantly improved through simple settings. This knowledge will provide you with clear troubleshooting methods and solutions to ensure your satisfaction.
1. Dental consonants
Problem
When using the earbuds, the user feels that vocals (especially dental consonants like /θ/ and /ð/) sound harsh or too sharp.
Cause
- The earbuds enhance high frequencies (above 4 kHz) more, which can make dental consonants more obvious.
- Some audio sources have heavy dental consonants.
Troubleshooting
- Access the earbuds card and go to . Increase the 500 Hz frequency band and lower the 4 kHz, 8 kHz, and 12 kHz frequency bands, and save the settings.
- Dental consonants exist in some audio sources. Try playing another audio source.
2. General noise
Problem
When the earbuds are used for voice chatting in games, the other party can hear noise.
Cause
This issue occurs when the game uses the phone microphone, and the default microphone gain is too high.
Troubleshooting
To change the microphone settings, go to the audio settings screen in the corresponding app, and adjust the microphone audio to a suitable level.
3. Static noise
Problem 1
When the HUAWEI earbuds are used with an iOS device for watching livestreams in a third-party app, there is static noise.
Troubleshooting
Update your phone to iOS 18 or later.
Problem 2
When the earbuds are taken out of the case for voice chatting in games, constant hissing sound is heard.
Cause
When Bluetooth low-latency mode is enabled in the game, the communication bandwidth of the phone may be occupied, causing abnormal Bluetooth audio data transmission.
Troubleshooting
- Switch the game to the background, wait for 3 seconds, and then switch back to the game.
- Alternatively, close and restart the game.
- This is a compatibility issue between the game and the Bluetooth protocol. We are working to resolve this issue. Please stay tuned and update your earbuds' firmware at your earliest convenience.
Problem 3
Constant static noise (a kind of constant and stable sizzling sound) can be heard when playing music in a quiet environment with the volume set to zero.
Cause
It is inevitable that electronic products generate static sound when playing audio, which is more noticeable at low volume levels.
Troubleshooting
- It is normal to hear a slight static noise on electronic products with audio functions. All electro-acoustic products are subject to a slight static noise in their use, which is more perceivable at low volume levels.
- When other devices are used to charge your earbuds wirelessly, the wireless charging coils of your phone and earbuds will generate an electromagnetic field, which will cause the charging case's capacitor to vibrate slightly and produce a weak static noise. This is a normal phenomenon and does not affect the normal use of your earbuds.
- If the earbuds are connected to HUAWEI phones/tablets running HarmonyOS 3.0 for audio/video playback, audio stuttering or static noise may be heard when you start/switch between apps, or start WeChat/QQ in a small window during gameplay. Update phones/tablets to HarmonyOS 3.0.0.120 or later and try again.
- If the issue persists when audio is played at a high volume, back up your data and take your device and proof of purchase to a nearby Huawei Customer Service Center for assistance.
4. Background noise
Problem 1
With ANC and Awareness mode disabled, a faint noise can be heard when the volume is low or muted.
Cause
The noise is generated while the electronic device is working. It is weak and only audible in very quiet environments and when the volume is set to the lowest. In-ear earbuds' tips have a more closed design that effectively blocks out external noise, so even small sounds are easier to notice. This phenomenon is more common in in-ear earbuds compared to open-ear ones.
Troubleshooting
- Update the earbuds' firmware, restore the earbuds to their factory settings, and try again.
- The background noise is only audible in a very quiet environment and when the volume is set to the lowest.
- If you feel uncomfortable with the noise, increase the volume.
- If the issue persists, take your device and proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center for assistance.
Problem 2
With ANC or Awareness mode enabled, a constant rustling sound can be heard in a quiet environment.
Cause
When ANC or Awareness mode is enabled, some minor noises inside the earbuds (such as the background noise of the circuit or microphone) may be amplified, and you may hear a rustling sound.
Troubleshooting
- The background noise that occurs after ANC or Awareness mode is enabled is usually very slight and cannot be heard in a daily environment. If you feel uncomfortable with the noise in a quiet environment, you can try disabling ANC or Awareness mode to see if the rustling sound still exists.
- Update the earbuds' firmware to the latest version for a better experience.
- If the issue persists, take your device and proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center for assistance.
5. Noise can be heard when you wear the earbuds
Problem
Noise can be heard from the earbuds when the user is walking, in a car, shaking their head, or tilting their head.
Cause
The ear tips do not fit well in your ears.
Troubleshooting
- Not installing ear tips or choosing the wrong size can cause the earbuds to fit loosely, resulting in noise. Install a pair of ear tips or replace them with an appropriate-sized pair and adjust the way you are wearing your earbuds so that the earbuds fit well in your ear canal.
- If the issue occurs when Noise cancellation mode or Awareness mode is enabled, take your device and proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center for assistance.
6. Popping noise
Problem
- When the user drags the progress bar or switches between songs, a popping noise is generated when the user releases their hand.
- After ANC is enabled, a popping noise is generated when the bus jolts or the bus door slams shut.
- When the user uses the earbuds to answer a call, a slight popping noise is generated when the user presses the Function button.
Cause
These popping noises are caused by brief changes when the earbuds switch between audio status, such as switching between songs, enabling or disabling noise cancellation, or answering an incoming call. This is especially true when ANC is enabled, and an external sudden noise (such as a door slamming or jolting) occurs. Additionally, the earbuds may generate a slight popping noise when the phone's ringtone is suddenly cut off when you answer a call.
Troubleshooting
- These noises are usually brief and do not affect your normal use.
- If you hear the noise when taking a subway or bus, you can disable the noise cancellation feature and enable them again after getting off the subway or bus. You can also choose a position away from the subway/bus door to reduce interference.
- This issue will be resolved in a later version. Please update your phone and earbuds for a better experience.
7. Bang sound
Problem
A bang sound is heard when the user performs touch controls (such as double-tap, swipe, and pinch) on the earbuds.
Cause
When ANC is enabled on the earbuds, touching the earbuds or adjusting the way you wear the earbuds will cause low-frequency vibrations, and these vibrations will be picked up by the microphone and amplified. In this case, you will hear a bang sound. This will not occur during normal use.
Troubleshooting
When touching the earbuds or adjusting the way you wear the earbuds, try to avoid touching the microphone area of the earbuds. This will effectively reduce the occurrence of the bang sound and improve your experience.
- The microphone holes of HUAWEI FreeBuds 6 are located on the rear of the earbuds handles. Avoid touching the microphone holes when you use the earbuds to adjust the volume.
- The microphone holes of HUAWEI FreeBuds 7i are located on the rear and bottom of the earbuds handles. Avoid touching the microphone holes when you perform touch controls on the earbuds or adjust the way you wear the earbuds.
8. Bong sound (stethoscope effect)
Problem
A bong sound is heard when the user wears the HUAWEI earbuds while walking or running.
Cause
The earbuds are affected by external contact or air friction, and the vibration this produces is transmitted directly into the ear canal, causing a bong sound, which resembles wearing a stethoscope. This is a normal phenomenon and does not affect your normal use.
Troubleshooting
The stethoscope effect is difficult to eliminate, but can be reduced. To reduce the stethoscope effect, try the following:
- Avoid using ear tips that are too large for your ears. The stethoscope effect will increase when the ear tips fit more tightly in your ears.
- Reduce the contact between the earbuds and your clothes.
