The external monitor is used as the primary monitor, but the desktop icons are not displayed on the screen of the external monitor
The external monitor is used as the primary monitor, but the desktop icons are not displayed on the screen of the external monitor |
Problem
After the user connects an external monitor to the laptop, uses Extended mode, and configures the external monitor as the primary monitor, the desktop icons are still displayed on the local screen and are not displayed on the screen of the external monitor.
Cause
The design of Windows 10 gives priority to the current layout of the desktop icons. If the current display cannot be retained, the desktop icons will be displayed on the screen of the external monitor instead.
Solution
Solution 1: Change the size of the desktop icons.
Solution 2: Right-click any blank area on the desktop and select Display settings from the shortcut menu to change the default resolution of the desktop to the resolution of the external monitor.
Solution 3: Right-click any blank area on the desktop and select Display settings from the shortcut menu to change the scaling ratio.
