Change the computer name

The system automatically generates a random computer name if you haven't set one. For details about computer naming rules, visit the Microsoft official website.

1. Go to > , select System (Windows 10: System > About), and select Rename on the right (Windows 10: Rename this PC).

   Click here to go to Settings.

2. Follow the onscreen instructions, enter a new name, and click Next.

3. Select Restart now or Restart later. After the computer is restarted, the new computer name is displayed.
   

   The new computer name you set may not take effect if you don't restart the computer, and Rename (or Rename this PC) will be grayed out.

Change the account name

This operation can only change your account name that is displayed on your computer and cannot change the folder name of a local account in Users on the C drive.

• Change the name of a local account
  1. Enter Control Panel in search box on the taskbar and open it.

  2. Click Change account type, select the account whose name you want to change, and click Change the account name.

  3. Enter a new name and click Change Name.

  4. After the computer is restarted, the new local account name will be displayed.

  1. Open the Microsoft official website (https://account.microsoft.com/account/).
  2. After logging in to your Microsoft account, click Your info and then Edit name.
      

     • You can click Add a photo to set your Microsoft profile picture.
     • After the Microsoft account name and profile picture are changed, it takes a period of time for the Microsoft server to sync the data.

     

  3. After the computer is restarted, the new Microsoft account name will be displayed.
