Multi-device connection of HUAWEI earbuds

After connecting FreeBuds Pro 4/FreeBuds 6i/FreeLace Pro 2/FreeClip/FreeBuds Pro 3/FreeBuds 5/FreeBuds Pro 2 earbuds to more than one phone/tablet that runs HarmonyOS 3.0 or later and has been logged in with the same HUAWEI ID, you can switch audio between them seamlessly. Multi-device connection is not supported on other earbuds. Refer to here to learn about the dual-connection feature.

  • HUAWEI PCs, HUAWEI Vision devices, and non-HUAWEI devices do not support multi-device connections. The following HUAWEI devices do not support multi-device connection even if they are updated to HarmonyOS 3.0:
    • Mobile phones: HUAWEI P10, HUAWEI P10 Plus, HUAWEI Mate 9, HUAWEI Mate 9 Pro, PORSCHE DESIGN HUAWEI Mate 9, HUAWEI nova 2s, HUAWEI nova 3, HUAWEI nova 3i, and HUAWEI Y9 2019
    • Tablets: HUAWEI MediaPad M5 10-inch, HUAWEI MediaPad M5 Pro 10-inch, HUAWEI MediaPad M5 8-inch, HUAWEI MediaPad M5 lite 8-inch, HUAWEI MediaPad M5 lite 10-inch, and HUAWEI MediaPad
    • HONOR 9, HONOR V9, HONOR Note 10, HONOR Play, HONOR Pad 5 8-inch, and HONOR Pad 5 10.1-inch

Connection method

  1. Enable Bluetooth on phones or tablets that are logged in with the same HUAWEI ID.
  2. If your earbuds have been paired with devices logged in with another HUAWEI ID, restore the earbuds to their factory settings. Otherwise, go to step 3.
  3. Connect the earbuds to one of the devices. The pairing records will be automatically synced to the other phones/tablets logged in with the same HUAWEI ID.

    • Multi-device connection/Dual-connection is enabled by default. You can set the features by opening the AI Life app, accessing the earbuds card, and going to Connection center > Multi connect.
    • To ensure your privacy and security, the multi-device connection feature is only available on HarmonyOS 3.0 and later devices logged in with the same account. If you want to switch to another HUAWEI ID, restore the earbuds to their factory settings.
    • A pair of earbuds can retain a maximum of 10 pairing records, but can be connected to only two devices at a time. Connecting the earbuds to a third device may disconnect one of the two connected devices. The earbuds will only show the connection status of two connected devices.

Audio output rules for multi-device connection

After the earbuds are connected to multiple devices, only the sound of one device can be played. Sound is prioritized as follows: calls > music/video playback. Music and video playback have the same priority.

  • Calls (including cellular and VoIP, incoming calls, and outgoing calls) will preempt non-call services that are running on other devices logged in with the same account.
  • Other services will not preempt the ongoing service on the earbuds. You can manually switch the device in Audio Control Panel or Super Device, or on the call screen.

    • Calls and communications in third-party apps and games are regarded as calling scenarios.
    • If your phone screen is on a non-WeChat screen, the earbuds will not automatically connect to your phone when there is an incoming WeChat call.
