Problem
The screen freezes and turns black, and the sound of the fan rotations can be heard. Pressing the Power button fails to wake up the screen. The device only returns to normal after the following operations are performed: Press and hold the Power button for five to six seconds, then cancel the power-off. According to Event Viewer, Event 4101 occurs when the screen is black.
- Right-click the Start icon and select Event Viewer.

- Go to , and input 4101, as shown in the following figure.


Cause
HUAWEI MateBook E 2023 with Intel comes equipped with Intel® Iris® Xe Graphics. When the GPU runs under a full load, there is an extremely low probability that a TDR event is triggered, causing a black screen. This issue is related to the Intel graphics card driver, and only occurs when the GPU is running under a full load.
TDR event: When the graphics card runs under a full load, some operations time out and the graphics card stops sending images to the screen.
Solution
- Short-term solution: Press and hold the Power button for five to six seconds to turn on the screen and try again.
- Permanent solution: This issue is related to the Intel graphics card driver. The driver vendor will update the Intel graphics card driver to resolve this issue. Please stay tuned for the OTA update. When it is available, go to or update the Windows system to resolve this issue.
