Error code 0xc0000098 0xc000000f is displayed on the Recovery screen when I power on my HUAWEI computer

Problem

When the user presses and holds the Power button to forcibly power off the device and then powers it on, the error code 0xc0000098 0xc000000f is displayed on the Recovery screen.

Cause

The BCD boot file of Windows is modified or damaged.

Solution

Press and hold the Power button for about 5 to 10 seconds, wait until the computer is powered off, and restart the computer again. If the issue persists, perform the following steps.

  1. When the device is powered off, press and hold the Power button. When the screen turns on, press F8 repeatedly and quickly to open the Advanced Settings page, and go to Troubleshooting > More Options > Command Prompt.

  2. Enter the bcdedit /export c:\bcdbackup command and press Enter.

  3. Enter diskpart and press Enter to enter the diskpart environment.

  4. Enter sel disk 0 and press Enter.

  5. Enter list part and press Enter to find the partition whose type is System and size is 200 MB. Remember the serial number (usually 1).

  6. Enter sel part plus the serial number in step 5, for example, sel part 0, and press Enter to select the boot partition.

  7. Enter assign letter=o and press Enter to assign drive letter O to the boot partition.

  8. Enter exit and press Enter to exit the diskpart environment.

  9. Enter o: and press Enter to access drive O.

  10. Enter attrib O:\EFI\Microsoft\Boot\BCD -h -r -s and press Enter to modify the attributes of the BCD file.

  11. Enter ren O:\EFI\Microsoft\Boot\BCD BCD.old and press Enter to change the name of the current BCD file to BCD.old.

  12. Enter bootrec /rebuildbcd and press Enter to reconstruct the BCD file. Check whether an installed Windows is identified.

  13. After the Windows installed on drive C is identified, enter y and press Enter to add the Windows startup item.

  14. Close the Command Prompt window and select Continue to enter the system.
