Unable to find images or videos on my HUAWEI phone/tablet

If you cannot find the images or videos in Gallery, try the following:

Retrieve images that have been accidentally deleted

Go to Gallery > Albums > Recently deleted to retrieve images that have accidentally been deleted in the last 30 days. These images will be permanently deleted after 30 days. Recently deleted won't be displayed if you haven't deleted anything recently.

Disable Hide albums and Blocked albums or unhide images

  • If your device supports Hidden items/Blocked albums and you have enabled it, disable Hidden items/Blocked albums as follows:
    • On the Albums screen, tap the four-dot icon in the upper right corner, then Hidden items to disable it.
    • In the Others list on the Albums screen, tap View blocked albums and toggle off the unhide switch next to the album.

Go to PrivateSpace or switch users to find the images or videos

To access PrivateSpace, go to Settings > Privacy/Security & privacy > PrivateSpace.

To access Users, go to Settings > Users & accounts > Users.

Search for images or videos in Cloud

Check whether your device is logged in to HUAWEI ID and whether Sync Gallery/Sync albums to Cloud is enabled in Gallery. If the feature is enabled, when you log in to the same HUAWEI ID on multiple HUAWEI phones/tablets, you can delete the images/videos synced to the cloud on any device. The deletion will also be synced to other devices logged in to the same account. You can log in to the Cloud official website (cloud.huawei.com) and go to Gallery to restore the recently deleted images/videos.

Access Files and find the images or videos that are not displayed in Gallery

1. Go to Files > Me > Settings, and enable Show hidden files and Show system-hidden files.

2. Open the directory based on the image source:

  • Photos or videos taken using Camera: Files > Browse > Phone/My tablet (Internal storage) > DCIM > Camera.

3. Find and delete the .nomedia file or folder in the directory. Skip this step if .nomedia doesn't exist.

Clear existing data from Media Storage and Gallery

Go to Settings, and search for and access Apps. Tap the four-dot icon in the upper right corner, tap Show system processes, select Media Storage and Gallery, and go to Storage > Clear data.

  • Deleting Media Storage data will restore the ringtone and notification tone settings. The system will rescan images in your phone/tablet. Please wait for a while before you open Gallery again.
  • Deleting Gallery and Media Storage data will not delete images from your phone/tablet, but will erase the My favorites, Highlights, and Discover albums from Gallery. The Highlights and Discover albums will be automatically generated after the device is charged for a period of time, with the screen off. The My favorites album will reappear when you add an image/video to favorites again. The customized category of the Hidden items album can be found in the Restore album.
