Pool swimming lap count/distance/stroke results are inaccurate on my HUAWEI watch/band
| Pool swimming lap count/distance/stroke results are inaccurate on my HUAWEI watch/band |
Before getting started
- Ensure that your watch/band has been updated to its latest version
We are continuously enhancing the accuracy of pool swim data. To ensure you get the best experience, please update your watch/band to the latest version.
- Set the pool length correctly before starting your swim (measuring the lane length is recommended for accuracy)
Swimming distance is calculated as the number of laps multiplied by the pool length. To ensure accurate tracking, it's essential to input the correct pool length. You can set the pool length on the pre-swimming screen or setting screen, as shown in the following figures.

- Check your personal information
Open the Huawei Health app, go to Me > Profile, and enter your correct personal information including gender, height, and weight.
- The water detection feature on your watch/band will only record pool swim data when you are swimming in the water. If you are practicing swimming on the shore, pool swim data will not be recorded.
- The wall turn helps improve lap count accuracy. Additionally, your device accurately detects freestyle and breaststroke movements. For best results, we recommend training in a 25-meter or 50-meter standard pool.
Inaccurate pool swimming distance or lap count
If the swimming distance or lap count recorded by your wearable device appears inaccurate, please review the following potential causes:
- Frequent stroke changes
Frequent switching between swimming strokes (e.g., freestyle to breaststroke) within a single lap may lead to inaccurate data. To ensure better accuracy, we recommend maintaining a consistent stroke throughout each lap (e.g., freestyle).
- Interference from swimming aids
Your wearable device currently does not support the use of swimming aids such as kickboards or fins. These tools can interfere with stroke detection, resulting in incorrect distance tracking. For accurate results, we suggest swimming without these aids to ensure proper stroke recognition.
- Abnormal actions (pauses, turns, etc.)
Your device detects your turns to determine when a lap is completed. However, frequent pauses, turns, manual pauses of the workout, or non-standard strokes during swimming may interfere with accurate stroke detection, potentially affecting lap count and distance accuracy. To ensure the best results, we recommend maintaining continuous swimming without interruptions.
- Unconventional swimming postures
When the swimming stroke cannot be accurately detected or is misidentified, it may result in inaccurate distance tracking. For more details, refer to Inaccurate swimming stroke records.
- First lap not recorded
If the distance of the first one or two laps is not recorded after you start swimming, it may indicate an issue with the barometer (bands do not have a barometer). When the air pressure hole is blocked, your device may fail to record swimming data accurately during the first 85 seconds of your swim. As a result, a significant number of strokes may not be detected. In this case, position the air pressure hole downward, and use a soft brush to gently clean the air pressure hole or allow it to dry completely. (For detailed instructions on locating the air pressure hole, see Smart watches_Appearance.) If the issue persists, back up your data and take your device and proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center for assistance.
- Last lap not recorded (applicable to Band 10 and earlier models)
- To enhance real-time performance, the watch anticipates lap completions by generating lap records when a turn is detected. If the distance of the last lap disappears after your swim, the following may be contributing factors:
- Non-standard end scenario: You exited the pool without swimming to the designated endpoint.
Remember to manually stop the workout mode when leaving the water; otherwise, the recorded end time may also differ from the actual time.
- Incomplete action: The final lap may have fewer than three strokes, leading to incomplete data capture.
- Non-standard end scenario: You exited the pool without swimming to the designated endpoint.
- Suggestion: After starting your swimming workout, maintain a smooth and consistent stroke rhythm (for breaststroke, we recommend a steady pace of one stroke and one kick). Ensure you complete your final turn at the wall before ending your workout.

Inaccurate swimming stroke records
- Cause: Your watch/band identifies swimming strokes by analyzing swimming actions. However, certain behaviors may lead to incorrect stroke identification and recording. These include pausing during swimming (e.g., walking while swimming), performing non-swimming arm movements, engaging in non-swimming activities in the water after starting your workout, or using non-standard swimming postures.
- Suggestion: Maintain continuous swimming strokes throughout your workout. Avoid pausing or engaging in non-swimming activities during your session. Focus on using standard swimming techniques (refer to professional swimming instructional videos for guidance).
If the issue persists or you encounter any difficulties, please call the Huawei customer service hotline for assistance. We will do our best to address your needs.
