The computer freezes or displays a white screen when right-clicking on the desktop and selecting New

When right-clicking on the desktop and selecting New, the computer freezes for a few seconds before the shortcut menu is displayed, or the mouse cursor keeps spinning and the screen turns white. This issue is caused by Microsoft updating some Windows patches or large apps, updates which affect the right-click menu function.

To solve the issue, upgrade Windows to version 1909 or above.Go to the official Microsoft webpage (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/windows-10-update-assistant-3550dfb2-a015-7765-12ea-fba2ac36fb3f), download Windows Update Assistant and follow the instructions to update the Windows system on your computer.

If the issue persists, press and hold F10 during startup to restore the computer to its factory settings. This will clear all your data on the C drive, including personal files saved in Desktop, Downloads, and Documents folders. Please back up your important data before you proceed.

Your Microsoft Office account will still be valid after restoring the computer to its factory settings. Enter the Microsoft account credentials you used when you activated Microsoft Office for the first time and follow the onscreen instructions to activate Microsoft Office again.
