My HUAWEI phone screen shows only black and white colours after I enable Dark or Eye Comfort mode

If a tempered glass screen protector or non-official screen protector is attached to your phone, the colours on screen may not be accurate. Try removing the screen protector and checking again. Some third-party themes can cause the colours on screen to look abnormal. Try applying an official theme and checking again. If the problem persists, perform the following steps:

Scenario 1: The screen shows only black and white colours

Scenario 2: The app background is black

Scenario 3: The screen colour changes from cold white to warm colours

Scenario 4: Home screen icons all turn black

Scenario 1: The screen shows only black and white colours

  • Check if Simulate colour space is enabled. If so, go to Settings, search for Simulate colour space, and select Off. (If Simulate colour space is not available, it means that this feature is not enabled. Skip this step.)

  • The screen turns black and white when eBook mode is enabled. To disable eBook mode, open Settings, search for and touch eBook mode.

If eBook mode is not available, it means that this feature is not supported on your phone.

Scenario 2: The app background is black

If the background of a system app is black, it means that Dark mode has been enabled. To disable Dark mode, go to Settings > Display & brightness > Dark mode.

Scenario 3: The screen colour changes from cold white to warm colours

This occurs when Eye Comfort is enabled. To disable this feature, open Settings, search for and touch Eye Comfort.

Scenario 4: Home screen icons all turn black

This occurs when Colour inversion is enabled. Open Settings, and search for and touch Colour inversion to disable the feature.

If the issue persists

  1. Reset all settings on your phone.
  2. If the issue remains unresolved, the screen may be faulty. Back up your data and take your device and proof of purchase to an authorised Huawei Customer Service Centre for assistance.
