Updating the firmware of my HUAWEI M-Pencil
| Updating the firmware of my HUAWEI M-Pencil |
Cause:
Some users have reported that the current update process is complicated and they aren't able to update their stylus pen. There are three main issues:
- The user touches to update the firmware but is prompted with the message that the current version is the latest version.
- When the user checks for updates, they are told that the battery level of the tablet or stylus pen is less than 20%.
- When the user enters the update screen, they are asked to grant the Location permission.
Solution:
Solution 1
1. Do not turn off the update screen during the update. If you have set the screen-off time to 1 minute, try touching the screen now and again or disable this feature.
2. Try keeping the tablet in Landscape mode to prevent the stylus pen from falling down when it is not properly attached.
3. Enter the update screen when the tablet is in Landscape mode.
Solution 2: Update the stylus pen on the Settings screen
To update the stylus pen, ensure that your M-Pencil and tablet have been paired. Enter M-Pencil in the search box after accessing the Settings screen (or after swiping down on the home screen). After you choose the M-Pencil, you will then be able to see a firmware update option. Touch Firmware update.
1. If the screen shows that the firmware is running the latest version, you do not need to update the firmware.
2. If the screen shows that the tablet battery level is low, charge the tablet. If the screen shows that the pencil battery level is low, charge the pencil. You can only proceed to update the firmware when the battery level of both the tablet and pencil is at least 20%.

3. Select Allow only while in use or Allow all the time.

The following screen will be displayed when the update is successful.

Note: Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the update. When the firmware is being updated, do not use the M-Pencil. In addition, place the M-Pencil next to the tablet and ensure that it is connected to the tablet.
Solution 3: Update the device by confirming the update on the pop-up dialog box
Attach the M-Pencil to the tablet and confirm you want to update the device on the pop-up dialog box.

If you see the dialog box displayed below, go to Settings > Privacy > Location services > Location, then select Allow only while in use or Allow all the time.

If this message is not displayed, continue to the next step. as shown in the first figure. If the update is successful, you will see a figure indicating that the update is successful, as shown in the second figure.

IIf you exit the update screen during the update, you can check the progress of the update by going to Settings > Accessibility features > M-Pen > Firmware update. You can also swipe down on the home screen to display the notification panel and check the update progress that way.
