The HUAWEI FreeBuds 5i – Smart HD Feature

The HUAWEI FreeBuds 5i, which is Hi-Res certified, uses LDAC Bluetooth transmission technology to deliver high-resolution end-to-end audio over a wide range of frequencies, when paired with devices supporting LDAC.

  • To use the Smart HD feature, you need to be using a device that supports LDAC. If there is no Smart HD option available in your AI Life app, your phone may not support LDAC. For further details, contact the device manufacturer.
  • LDAC is supported on some Huawei devices running EMUI 8.0 or later. If you are using a non-Huawei device, contact the device manufacturer for further information regarding LDAC on your device. LDAC is not supported on iOS devices.

To set up Smart HD, follow these steps:

  1. Update the AI Life app plug-ins and the AudioAccessoryManager to their latest versions.
  2. Pair and wear your earphones.
  3. In the AI Life app, go to the earphone card screen, then go to Sound effects, and enable Smart HD. If LDAC is displayed in the current Bluetooth audio decoder, Smart HD has already been enabled.

  • Some phones (such as Samsung phones) may require LDAC to be enabled. For further information on how to enable LDAC, contact the phone vendor.
  • When Smart HD is enabled or disabled, any music or video playback will be paused. You need to resume playback manually. Enabling Smart HD can improve audio quality, but may also affect the battery life and cause stuttering, depending on the environment in which you use it. We recommend that you disable Smart HD in environments with interference, such as in stations and at airports.
