Upgrading Windows Home to the Pro edition |
If you need to upgrade the pre-installed Windows Home to the Pro edition, purchase the Windows Pro system from Microsoft.
Before upgrading the system, make sure that you have the Windows Pro product key. You can find the product key in the order email for your purchase, or on the package that the Windows DVD or USB came in.
- Upgrading the pre-installed Windows Home to the Pro edition may cause compatibility issues.
- Upgrading the system will not result in the loss of your files. However, it is recommended that you back up important files to an external device before upgrading the system, so that your files are protected in the event that anything should go wrong.

- If an error occurs during the upgrade, contact Microsoft.
- Press Win+I to open the Settings screen, and go to System > About.
- Click Product key and activation.
- Click Change next to Change product key.
- Enter the product key, click Next, and follow the onscreen instructions to activate Windows Pro.
