Remote shutter on my HUAWEI watch/band does not work

Requirements for using this feature:

  1. Make sure that your watch/band is properly connected to the Huawei Health app, and the Huawei Health app is running in the background. You can check the connection status by going to Huawei Health > Devices.
  2. If you're using a smart watch, make sure that the HUAWEI ID on your watch is synced with that on your phone.
  3. Make sure that your phone supports Remote shutter. The phone models and versions that support this feature are as follows:

Model

HUAWEI Phones

iPhones

Third-Party Android Phones

Version

EMUI 8.1 or later

iOS 13.0 or later (supported only on certain wearable models), and the pre-installed Camera app on the phone must be enabled first

*If the icon is not displayed in the app list on your wearable, it indicates that this feature is not supported. Actual situations shall prevail.

Currently, only the GT 6 Series (version 6.0.0.188 or later), Band 11 Series, and GT Runner 2 support this feature when paired with certain Android phones.

*If the icon is not displayed in the app list on your wearable, it indicates that this feature is not supported. Actual situations shall prevail.

Remote shutter only works with the pre-installed Camera app in the standard Photo or Video mode. This feature is not supported in Aperture, Night, AR, Slow-mo, Moving picture, Panorama, or Time-lapse mode. It does not work either with third-party camera apps.

Unable to find Remote shutter in the app list on my watch

  1. You may have deleted the app by mistake. To restore it, go to Settings > Apps > Apps > Restore system apps on your watch (HUAWEI WATCH 4 is used as an example), and tap Remote shutter.
  2. If Remote shutter is not among the apps that can be restored, it indicates that your watch does not support this feature.

A message displays indicating a connection failure after Remote shutter is opened

  • Check the connection status between your watch/band and the Huawei Health app. If the device is disconnected, the feature will not work. To prevent the Huawei Health app from being cleared in the background, which can cause the device to disconnect, it is recommended that you set background protection for the Huawei Health app.
  • If you are using an iPhone, open the Camera app on your phone before using Remote shutter.

The message "Connection error. Please try again." or "Unable to load. Camera unavailable." displays after Remote shutter is opened

When the Band 11 Series is paired with an iPhone, Remote shutter malfunctions after Heart rate broadcast is used

Temporary solution: In the Huawei Health app, unlink the device (tap in the upper right corner of the device details screen and select Unpair device). Restart Bluetooth on your phone, link the device again, and try again.

Long-term solution: This issue will be resolved in a later version of the Band 11 Series. Please keep an eye out for system updates and update your device at your earliest convenience.

When paired with an Android phone, the watch/band displays a message indicating that Remote shutter is working successfully (√), but no new photo is displayed in the phone album.

  1. Unpair the device.

On your phone, go to Settings > Bluetooth, select the Bluetooth name of the previously paired watch/band and other Bluetooth devices that are not in use, and unpair them. (For some models, you can touch and hold the device name to unpair it.)

  2. Unlink the device via the Huawei Health app.

Open the Huawei Health app, tap Devices, and select the connected wearable device. On the displayed device details screen, tap in the upper right corner, and select Unpair device.

  3. Pair your devices again.

In the Huawei Health app, search for and pair your wearable with your phone again. After the connection is successful, try using the Remote shutter feature again.

If the issue persists

If the issue persists, try disconnecting the wearable and reconnecting it. If the issue remains unresolved or you encounter any difficulties, back up your data and take your device and proof of purchase to an authorised Huawei Customer Service Centre for assistance.
