The screen is too dark or too bright

Problem:

The screen is excessively bright or dark in certain environments.

Solution:

Automatic screen brightness adjustment is enabled by default on your phone. The light sensor adjusts the screen brightness according to the ambient light level to improve your visual comfort. However, if you find that the phone screen is too bright or too dark in certain environments, refer to the troubleshooting guide below:

  1. Check whether you have disabled automatic screen brightness adjustment, or whether the app in use has set the screen brightness to a fixed value
    • Go to Settings > Display and enable (or disable then re-enable) automatic brightness adjustment.
    • The level of ambient light in dark environments may not be correctly detected by the light sensor, making you feel that the screen is too bright or too dark. You can also disable automatic screen brightness adjustment and drag the brightness bar to a level that is comfortable for you.

  2. Check whether Eye Comfort is enabled, or the screen or wallpaper colour causes eye discomfort

To disable Eye Comfort, search for and access Eye Comfort in Settings. Then check whether the issue is resolved.

To adjust the screen colour, search for and access Colour temperature or Colour mode & temperature in Settings, then set a colour temperature according to your preferences.

To change the wallpaper, search for and access Home screen & wallpaper or Wallpaper in Settings, then select a new wallpaper.

  3. Check whether Power saving mode is enabled. In this mode, the screen brightness automatically dims. Exit this mode in Phone Manager and check whether the screen brightness returns to normal.

  4. Restart your phone and check again.

If the issue persists, back up your data and take your device and proof of purchase to an authorised Huawei Customer Service Centre for assistance.
