The screen turns off automatically if the computer is not used for a while

After not being used for a while, the computer will enter either Sleep or Hibernation mode.

  • If no action is performed for a few minutes, the computer will enter Sleep mode. Data currently being processed will be saved to RAM and all power consuming functions will shut down. This allows you to quickly wake up the computer when you want to use it again.
  • If the computer is not used for a few hours, it will enter Hibernation mode. All your work will be saved and the computer will power off. Next time you turn it on, the computer goes back to where you left off.

Music or videos being played will prevent the computer from entering Sleep or Hibernation mode, but the screen still turns off.

If you want to change the time period after which the computer enters Sleep mode, click the Windows icon and then the Settings icon.Go to Power & battery > Screen and sleep (or go to System > Power & sleep if your computer is running Windows 10) and manually set the time for the screen to turn off and the time for the computer to enter Sleep mode.

You can also edit these options from the Control Panel. Click the Search icon, enter ”Control panel” in the search box and open Control Panel.Go to Hardware and Sound > Power options > Change when the computer sleeps and choose the sleep and display settings you want your computer to use.
